REYNOLDS, Ga. – The 2018 SFG World Series of Bracket Racing came to a close on Sunday with the second $75,000 to win bracket race in as many days. The World Series was originally scheduled for three $50,000 to win events but a terrible weather forecast forced the SFG team to change the schedule so instead of racing for three $50’s, racer’s had two shots at $75,000 over the weekend.
As the racing weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening, the final seven competitors included Brad Wheeler, Jared Ledford, Aaron Vail, and CJ Drake on the doorcar ladder while David Taylor, Brendon George, and Troy Williams remained on the dragster ladder.
Brendon George earned the bye in the quarters while David Taylor faced off with Troy Williams. Taylor took the lead off the line, .010 to .024, and finished it up at the stripe taking a .003-second win when his .016 over 4.556 was just better than Williams’ dead-on five.
On the doorcar ladder it was Brad Wheeler taking an easy win over Jared Ledford when Ledford slowed to .07 above. Aaron Vail used an .008-second package to lock out CJ Drake who let go .032.
In the semifinal round it would be David Taylor and Brendon George pairing up for a spot in the $75,000 final round. Taylor took a .012 to .037 lead that the tree to secure his place in the final round. In the other half of the semifinal round it would be Aaron Vail in his ’73 Firebird taking on the roadster of Brad Wheeler. Aaron took the easy win after Wheeler’s roadster backed out of the beams after the tree was activated.
In the final round Taylor once again took the lead at the tree with yet another solid .013 light to Vail’s .028. Taylor cleaned it up at the stripe posting a .03 over 4.57 to Vail’s .03 over 6.56 to collect the $75,000 winner’s purse.
