DragChamp Top 10 List – 10/2/19
1 – Hunny Wayne goes back-to-back!
Just a week removed from the largest payday of his career at the Fall Fling 500K, Hunter Patton wins the IHRA Division 4 Summit Team Finals! The man they call Hunny Wayne, captured the win at Pine Valley Raceway over a tough field.
Hunter overcame a late race protest to take down reigning IHRA World Champ Dale Scates in the final round. The win was his third IHRA Finals victory. And that my friends is how you lock down the one spot two weeks in a row!
2 – Matt Dadas
Much like Hunter, Dadas continued his recent streak with another strong performance. Racing at the No Box Bonanza at Summit Motorsports Park, Dadas collected the $7,500 victory on Friday over a red-lighting Michael Beard.
This is just the latest in a string of terrific performances by Matt. Remember, the summer started with Gage Burch winning the SFG 500 in Matt’s Danger Ranger!
3 – Kevin Thorp
In an epic fail last week, Kevin Thorp was left off of the Top 10 List. Why was this a huge mistake, well he only won the biggest Allstar event ever at the Spring Fling 500K.
Kevin drove through a field of 37 former Fling winners to claim the King of the Fling title! In the final, Thorp overcame Tommy Cable’s perfect light to claim the big win!
Sorry for the miss last week Kevin but we got it this week!
4 – Garrett Griffith
17-year-old Garrett Griffith cracked’em for $100K at the Derby City $100K race at Ohio Valley Dragway! In the final, Griffith drove his S-Dime past the digger of Josh McDaniel for the biggest win of his young career.
The win came in the 64-Car Shootout on Saturday night at the Tyler Bohannon promoted event. Griffith outlasted a stout field that included former 2x Million winner Kenny Underwood who reached the semifinals.
5 – Ray Ray Miller
Ray Miller 3 has enjoyed a huge season on the NHRA tour in 2019. He kicked off the season on a three race win streak. After cooling somewhat over the summer, he came out fighting at the Division 2 Lucas Oil series race at GALOT.
There Ray Ray doubled up taking both the Super Comp and Super Gas Wally’s in the process. The win puts him in the driver’s seat for the NHRA Super Comp world championship.
6 – David Baugh
David Baugh made history on Saturday at the IHRA Division 4 Summit Team Finals event. Baugh claimed the Modified class championship on a pocket rocket! That’s right, David worked his way through the talented field of doorcars on a bike!
In the semifinals, he raced his nephew, Casey Baugh, who was also on a bike! The Baugh’s Out Racing team definitely showed out at Pine Valley Raceway.
7 – Sean Graham
Sean has been on a tear recently picking up 10 wins in 12 finals over the last two months! Last weekend at National Trail Raceway, he won Super Pro on Saturday in his dragster and was runner up in Q32 in his Corvette.
On Sunday, Graham visited the winner’s circle again taking home the Q32 trophy in his Corvette. The week prior, he doubled at Pacemaker Dragway winning Pro in his S-10 and Super Pro in the dragster.
Let’s recap, that’s four wins, five finals, two weeks, two tracks, and three cars! Wow!
8 – Niki Thomas
A week removed from her IHRA Summit Team Finals victory, Niki Thomas continued rolling at the No Box Bonanza at Summit Motorsports Park. There Niki won 10 rounds to claim the $10,000 winners check in her S-10.
Prior to winning on Sunday, she posted 7th round finishes on Friday and Saturday. She just might be the hottest No Box racer in the country right now!
9 – Brandon Barker (Tie)
Can you say Threepeat? Brandon Barker can! Three was the number of the day at the 2019 Canadian Bracket Finals when Barker won for the third consecutive year. He collected the $15K victory at the ICAR Mirabel facility to add to his $10K victories in 2017 and 2018.
9 – Shane Maddox (Tie)
Shane Maddox had a great weekend at the Fall Fling 500K. He started the week off right winning an American dragster on Day 1 of the week-long event. Shane then made his way to three cars in the $500K main event before losing to Matt Dadas.
A week later, Maddox continued his winning ways at Greer Dragway. Maddox claimed the $5K Main Event win at Kevin Brannon’s Carolina Fab $5K race.
10 – Brian Yerger Jr. (Tie)
Junior dragster racer Brian Yerger Jr. has been on a tear over the last few months. Competing at tracks such as Farmington, Wilkesboro, Darlington, and Mooresville, Yerger has racked up 12 wins in 13 finals! Over the weekend he picked up a Wally for his latest win.
10 – Jason Ford (Tie)
Jason Ford grabs a spot on this week’s list after winning $20,000 at the No Box Bonanza at Summit Motorsports Park. The win was the largest payout in No Box Bonanza history!
Just because we love you, we like to throw in a little something extra each week. Here are a few more racers that made headlines last week!
Vernon Rowland made his third NHRA national event final round of the season at the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals. Rowland was the Super Gas runner up on Sunday to Mark Buttram. His previous two finals resulted in a Super Comp win in Houston and a Super Gas win in Brainerd.
Jake Howard did what Jake Howard does and pulled off a double-win weekend at the IHRA Division 4 Team Finals. He parked the Fireturd in the winners circle on Friday in the Top Gamblers race and on Sunday in the No Box Gamblers race.
Jackie Hibbard also had a big weekend at the IHRA Division 4 Team Finals. Hibbard won the Gamblers race on Friday and the Main Event on Saturday!
Graeme Rufenacht has been hot the last couple of weeks in his junior. After collecting three wins at two different tracks a couple of weeks ago, Graeme won the Sunday Gamblers race at Pine Valley Raceway on Sunday. That makes four wins at three tracks in a couple of weeks!
