DragChamp Top 10 List – 10/7/19 Edition

It’s a three-peat for Hunny Wayne! Hunter Patton takes the top spot for the third consecutive week on the DragChamp Top 10 List.

10/9/19 – The only weekly sportsman racing Top 10 List is back for another edition. This week’s list looks alot like the last three weeks as Hunter Patton and Matt Dadas grab the top spots!

After making the final round at the Fall Fling 500K, both Hunter and Matt have continued winning races and making final rounds in the weeks that followed. Because of that, they are once again at the top of the list!

DragChamp Top 10 List – 10/9/19

1 – Hunny Wayne earns third straight #1

Hunter Patton 3k win

Hunter Patton is almost unstoppable right now. You all know his recent streak started with a gamblers race win on Sunday at the NHRA Division 4 Bracket Finals.

He then collected a $500,000 payday at the Fall Fling 500K. The following week he won the IHRA Division 4 Summit Team Finals at Pine Valley Raceway.

He returned to Pine Valley a week later and proceeded to go off on the field at the Texas Fall Bracket Frenzy. The event featured a $3K Gambler race on Fridany and two $10’s over the weekend. Hunter won Friday, Saturday, and was runner up on Sunday.

That’s right, he came within one rip of the throttle from sweeping the weekend! In Sunday’s final, he’s .009 get behind .0019 to go one above and just miss a perfect weekend.

2 – Matt Dadas

Matt Dadas

If it weren’t for Hunter Patton, Matt Dadas would be dominating the Top 10 List. Like Hunter, Matt made the Fall Fling 500K final and has continued that momentum over the last couple of weeks.

After a $7,500 victory a week ago at the No Box Bonanza in Norwalk, Matt had a big weekend at the Boo Banger race at Kil-Kare. In a field of 300-400 cars, Matt made the quarterfinals on Friday, was runner up on Saturday, and made the rain split on Sunday!

3 – Sean Graham

Another racer that’s been impressive lately is Sean Graham. We spoke last week about Sean’s recent success that included 10 wins in 12 finals. This came in three different cars and multiple tracks.

Sean continued his success at the Halloween Hoot Out at National Trail Raceway. There he won 14 straight rounds to win the No Box class on Friday and Saturday. This increased his win streak to 37 rounds in a row in his No Box S-10!

4 – Danny Nelson

Danny Nelson Top Dragster

In the four spot this week is NHRA Top Dragster racer and chassis builder Danny Nelson. Danny’s been on fire lately winning races on the NHRA and Midwest Pro Mod Tour.

In the last handful of weeks, he’s won two national events and three Lucas Oil divisional events. The last of which came over the weekend at St. Louis.

His current streak moved him into first place in the national points chase for the NHRA Top Dragster world championship.

5 – Gary Simpers Jr.

Gary Simpers Jr. dominated the Maple Grove Door Wars Footbrake event last weekend. On Friday, Gary defeated Austin Youndt in the $10K final. Then on Saturday he took out Brit Schlichtig for his second $10K win of the weekend.

When the rains came on Sunday, I believe Simpers was still in contention for the weekend sweep!

6 – Allison Doll

Allison Doll is making a run at the Stock Eliminator national title. On Sunday, she claimed her fourth win of the season at Virginia Motorsports Park. The win moved her into second place, just 10 points out of first, with two races left to claim.

7 – Sacha Hoefer

When it comes to the Division 7 Bracket Finals, the Hoefer name always seems to come up. This year was no different as Sacha Hoefer left Las Vegas with her third win in as many years. So just like that, Sacha will have another shot at a national championship in Pomona.

Also, her husband CW doubled up on Friday night!

8 – Mark Buttrum

A week after winning Super Gas at the Midwest Nationals in St. Louis, Mark won the Lucas Oil divisional over the weekend to complete the sweep. What’s even more special is the national event was just his third time running Super Gas at a NHRA national.

His recent Super Gas success followed a $10K win at the Working Mans $10 Grands bracket race at Wagler Motorsports Park.

9 – Jeff Staley

Jeff Staley had a huge year at Renegade Raceway in 2019. Over the weekend Jeff captured both the Super Pro and Pro track championships to wrap up the season.

In addition, he won Pro on Saturday and Sunday along with winning the King of the Track Wally on Sunday!

10 – Kendal Little

While normally it takes more than one race win to make the list, Kendal gets the nod this week after preventing the Hunter Patton sweep! Kendal took home the $10K victory on Sunday at the Texas Fall Bracket Frenzy defeating Hunny Wayne in the final.

Shout Outs

Just because they weren’t ranked, they still deserve some love for their amazing performances. Here’s a little something extra!

Lucas Walker gets a shout out this week for his Mod victory at the IHRA Summit Team Finals at Memphis. After his starter gave up during eliminations, Lucas never cut the car off during the last three rounds. Even more, after winning he drove it back to the winners circle, back to the pit, loaded it, and then cut it off! That’s the stuff legends are made of!

Jessica Bogacki earned her first NHRA Wally at the Division 3 LODRS at St. Louis! This has been a long time coming and we’re excited to see Jessica earn alot more in the future.

Chad Sandlin wins again! I know, that’s not news as he’s always getting a picture took somewhere. This week was special in that he won the Cowpasture Nationals for the 6th time! In the final he ran his good buddy Jake Howard!

Keith Thomas pulled off the wreck and win at Memphis to earn a shout out. At three cars on Thursday, Keith wrecked his doorcar. He came back around on Friday and won in his dragster! Keith also made it to 10 at the Fall Fling 500K main event a few weeks ago.

Zach Meziere won the Division 7 Summit ET Finals for the second consecutive season. The win was his third overall at the annual event. In addition to his victory, his dad, Dave, won the Race of Champions to complete a very special weekend for the Meziere family.
