DragChamp Top 10 List 7/17/19 Edition
Welcome to the DragChamp Sportsman Drag Racing Top 10 List presented by In Motion Solutions.
7/17/19 – The summer months continue to produce some outstanding performances from sportsman drag racers. With a number of big events going on across the U.S., we have put together another solid list.
Some of the big events over the weekend included:
- Western States Championships at Sacramento Raceway
- Quaker City Big Bucks Nationals
- IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at US131 Motorsports Park
- NHRA Lucas Oil Series races in Division 4, Division 3, and Division 6
DragChamp was created to celebrate sportsman drag racers. We focus on the weekend warrior to insure they receive the recognition for their hard work and dedication.
Each week we produce the Sportsman Racing Top 10 List to showcase racers who performed at a high level. This includes Top Bulb, Bottom Bulb, Juniors, NHRA Lucas Oil sportsman, and IHRA. If it’s sportsman drag racing, we’ll all over it.
So who made the list this week? Let’s get to it.

DragChamp Top 10 List presented by In Motion Solutions
1 – “Nasty” Nick Hastings
After winning $50,000 on Friday, actually completed on Sunday, at the SFG 500, Nick dominated the No Box class at the Big Bucks Nationals.
Nick won the $5K No Box class on Friday and Sunday at the Quaker City big Bucks Nationals. In both finals, he defeated talented racer and promoter Michael Beard.
The two heavy hitters put on a show in both finals with the win lights decided by a thousandth or two each time.

2 – Ricky Decker
The Super Stock ace and former world champ found his way to another final round at the Division 3 Lucas Oil race at Route 66. Ricky has been in the finals at almost every race he’s attended this year.
After a runner up at the opening D3 race of the season, Ricky claimed the win at the Norwalk divisional, won the JEGS Sportsnational Open, and was runner up at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.

3 – Mike Coughlin
The Team JEGS driver has been deadly the last two weeks. After winning Top Dragster at the INDY divisional, Mike decided to go back-to-back the next week at the Route 66 Lucas Oil event.

4 – Marko Perivolaris
Marko has had a tremendous year in 2019. He kicked off the season with double at the Sonoma Raceway bracket race and hasn’t stopped winning since.
Last weekend at the Western States Championship, Marko did everything but win a race. Although he never turned on the final win light, Marko made three final rounds over the weekend.
Those finals included the Friday $5K Pro Shootout, Saturday $4K Quick 16 race, and the Saturday $7,500 Super Pro main event. In the Quick 16 final, Marko lost to Big Nasty Kyle Seipel. The win was an emotional one as it was Kyle’s first since recovering from cancer.

5 – Iggie Boicesco
After having tons of engine troubles recently, the Super Gas veteran stumbled upon a combination and preceded to accumulate a 13-1 record in a three week period.
Using a motor he calls Frankenstein, Boicesco won the New England Nationals recently. He followed that with a Mid Atlantic .90 Assoc. win the following week at Cecil County.

6 – Ray Boyer
Ray Boyer has enjoyed a successful run over the last few weeks. Last weekend he pulled off a win and a semifinal finish at the Lucas Oil Raceway bracket series event.
A couple of weeks prior to that, Boyer raced his way down to eight cars at the largest paying drag race in history, the SFG 500.

7 – Maverick Green
Maverick is a 19-year old that races motorcycles. At the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at US131, he won on Sunday after a runner up on Saturday. Did I mention he was racing against cars, yep, Maverick was getting it done on two wheels in the Mod class.
In the Sunday final, he defeated his Dad to claim the trophy. And of course, his dad was on a motorcycle as well.

8 – Jacob Foster
Another racer that killed it at the IHRA Summit race at US 131 was Jr. racer Jacob Foster. Jacob grabbed the Master Division Jr. win on Saturday and Sunday.

9 – Nick Bowman
Nick has been quietly putting together a tremendous season. Although he hasn’t earned wins at some of the big events, Nick has been making finals on a weekly basis. His latest accomplishment was a runner up in the $5K Box Friday final at the Big Bucks Nationals.
Bowman was the recipient of Sean Serra’s 5-pack in the final round. Here’s a video of the final round.

10 – Bill Tagert
While others may have won more, Bill Tagert pulled off an amazing feat at the Western States Championships. Racing in the Pro class, Bill won the Sunday $2,500 race in a street-driven, 11-second (1/8 mile), Ford Taurus.
To make it even more impressive, Tagert made rounds all weekend including getting down to 10 cars on Friday night and coming up one round short of the money on Saturday.

Shout Outs
Mike Morris – From what I’m told, Mike went off at the Super Chevy Show at Maple Grove Raceway last weekend. He reeled off 15 straight round wins which included a High Roller win on Friday and a Top Dragster win on Sunday.

Jody Lang – His season continues to get better each week. After numerous wins in his Stock Eliminator Wagon, Jody grabbed runner up honors in Super Stock at the Division 6 Lucas Oil race at Woodburn.
