DragChamp Top 10 List – 10/30/19

1 – Dave Triplett

Your 2019 Mickey Thompson Million Dollar Race winner takes the one spot this week after winning his second Million Dollar Race! Dave also made history by becoming the first three-time Million Dollar Race finalist. The accomplished racer drove the same Chevy Vega to all three finals! His first win came in 2008, he then runnered up in 2013, and won again this year.

2 – Matt Dadas

Matt Dadas continues to add to what has been an amazing season. His accomplishments have been displayed in this columns for months now. After owning the car that won the SFG 500, driving to a runner up at the Fall Fling 500K, and winning numerous races, Matt defeated Johnny Ezell on Wednesday to claim the $15K Warm Up win.

3 – Sugar Shane Carr

Another big dollar bracket race, another big win for Sugar Shane! Shane Carr continued his recent success by claiming the combined Thursday/Friday Triple $30’s race. Carr drove Shane Thompson’s beautiful blown dragster to the $60K win on Saturday. This was the same dragster Carr drove to the Spring Fling Vegas Million runner up in the spring.

4 – Tyler Bohannon

DragChamp Top 10 List

After a successful summer that saw T-Bo make multiple finals on the NHRA tour along with several bracket racing victories, Tyler made waves again at the Million. On Sunday, he made a late run at the Million main event before eventually falling one round short of the split.

Once the Million was completed, Tyler finished off the weekend with a victory in the Sunday Triple $30’s race.

5 – Timothy Thomas

DragChamp Top 10 List

Timothy Thomas had the race of his life after making the final of the Million Dollar Race main event. After driving through a super-talented field, Thomas laid down .019 total in the final only to come up .003 short in his bid for the Million. An impressive accomplishment that was well earned.

6 – Peeps Pennington

DragChamp Top 10 List

Peeps continues to show up big at the largest bracket races of the season. After winning the Spring Fling Vegas Million earlier this year, Peeps won $30K at the Fall Fling 500K. He followed this with a semifinal finish at the Million Dollar Race coming oh so short of another huge victory.

7 – Josh Luedke

Adkins Luedke 15K Warm Up winners

Josh Luedke continues to prove himself as one of the best in the game. Luedke had a big week at Montgomery which started with a $15K Warm Up victory on Sunday. Josh then made his way to six cars in the Million before a -.001 red-light ended his day against eventual winner Dave Triplett.

8 – Severn Johnson

Like Luedke, Severn had a big week a the Million. He too won a $15K Warm Up Race and followed it up by making the split in the Million main event. At 11 cars on Sunday, Severn fell to the aforementioned Luedke.

9 – Kevin Brannon

DragChamp Top 10 List

KB makes the Top 10 on the heels of his impressive run in the Million. He had two entries at 22 cars. There he lost one entry after his car backed out of the beams. He advanced his second entry to six cars before falling to the same fate. Either way, KB is a bad dude and made an impressive showing in the main event.

10 – Kevin Pollard

DragChamp Top 10 List

Kevin Pollard has a habit of making noise at big dollar bracket racing events. At the Million, Pollard footbraked his way to the split at 11 cars before falling to Jon Siegel. By the way, Pollard was .006 to Siegel’s .025 but ran three over in the loss.

Shout Outs

Just because they weren’t ranked, they still deserve some love for their amazing performances. Here’s a little something extra!

Henry Roberson locked up the NHRA Heritage Series Hot Rod National Championship over the weekend. Congrats to a badass racer on his great accomplishment. Click on his name above to learn more about Henry.

The Folk Family gets a shout out for enduring a tough forecast and making the most of it. They fought all weekend and got everything completed at the 24th Annual Million Dollar Race. Great job!

Jared Pennington gets a nod this week for being Big Jed! A couple of moments stand out for me from the weekend. First, when the track had audio problems with the recorded national anthem, Jared stepped up and sang it live, unrehearsed, and on command. His son JJ even jumped in for backup vocals.

Then later in the evening, just prior to the semifinals of the Million, Jared got emotional and shared some personal feelings on JJ and Kyle Seipel while on the mic. It was touching and done as only Big Jed can do. Thanks for all you do brother!

David “Bird” Jones, currently known more for his Street Outlaws antics, made some noise on Sunday. He was doubled until round 4 of the Million and finished the day with a runner up in the Sunday $30K race. Pretty good for a No Prep racer!

DragChamp Top 10 List

Slate “Baby Gap” Cummings like Kevin Brannon and David Bird Jones, was doubled in the Million until the late rounds. Slate took two entries to 21 cars where he went red in both. I’m sure he told Baby Cole somewhere during eliminations, “I got it!”, until he didn’t. Great outing though for a talented racer.
