Devin Dudley and Jeff Serra enjoy big weekends at the 6th Annual Loose Rocker Colonial Classic at Virginia Motorsports Park.
The Loose Rocker team rolled into Virginia Motorsports Park for the 6th Annual Flatout Gaskets Colonial Classic presented by Calvert Kettle Corn. The Colonial Classic is the fourth event on the 2019 Loose Rocker schedule.
With over 350 cars in attendance, the Colonial Classic continued the successful run the Loose Rocker team has enjoyed in 2019. Racers looked to grab their share of the $5K-$10K-$5K winners purse over the three-day event.
Devin Dudley, who sweep the Footbrake class at the 2018 event, continued his dominance taking a win on Saturday night. Jeff Serra, who’s no stranger to Loose Rocker finals, won his second Loose Rocker Eagle trophy on Saturday night.
Although racers dodged most of the bad weather throughout the weekend, Sunday’s $5K events were not completed due to weather and breakage delays. Both Footbrake and Top ET were halted at the quarterfinals on Sunday night and the purse was split among the remaining contestants.
Throughout the weekend, the Virginia Motorsports Park track crew worked tirelessly to keep the track dry and maintained so each of the race’s could be completed.
Legendary 64 Shootout
The big money bracket racing weekend kicked off on Thursday with the Legendary 64 Shootout. With $5,000 on the line, racers lined up for their shot at the big check.
After a short downpour and a full-track oil down, the VMP crew busted their tails to get the track race-ready in time to complete the Shootout. In the final round, Marty Dabney grabbed the big check when Bruce Hairston turned it red. Andy Lloyd was the lone semifinalist.
Friday Colonial Classic Results
In the Friday Footbrake $5K, Jake Milstead drove his ’87 Mustang to the big win over Tim Foskey Jr. in his ’84 Mustang. The final was ultra close as Milstead used a .001 starting line advantage to claim the victory after both racers ran .014 over their respective dial-ins.
In the semifinals, Milstead stopped 2018 Footbrake king Devin Dudley on a double-breakout race. Foskey took out Todd Thoman on a holeshot to move to the finals.
Top ET Results
In the Top ET class, Jon Corbin defeated Gus Goosemen to claim the $5K win. After both drivers posted .012 reactions, Corbin grabbed the win after Goosemen was -.005 under his dial. Corbin posted a dead-on 4.468 for the win.
In the Top ET semifinals, Corbin used a .011-pack to turn back Carey Long while Goosemen grabbed the win over Shawn Carpenter. Carpenter had the advantage off the line but grabbed too much stripe to go -.004 under.
Saturday Colonial Classic Results
After falling just short on Friday night, Devin Dudley found his way to another Loose Rocker final on Friday. Dudley was .007 dead nine to take down Bobby Mattera in the $10K Footbrake final round.
While Dudley had the semifinal bye, Mattera pulled a rabbit out of his hat to defeat Nathan Sexton. Sexton grabbed a .002 to .056 advantage off the line but proceeded to take .060 stripe to go -.001 under his dial sending Mattera to the final round.
Of note, there were three Mattera’s still in at six cars. In addition to Bobby, Tony and John went deep in the Footbrake field.
Top ET Results
A familiar name graced the winners circle in Top ET on Saturday night. Jeff Serra, already a winner this season on the Loose Rocker tour, grabbed another big check after defeating Shawn Carpenter in the $10K final round.
The final was brutal as both drivers ran -.001 under their respective dial-ins. Serra captured the win after his .005 to .006 reaction time advantage sealed the deal.
Prior to the final, Serra used an .011-pack to defeat recent big money winner Corey Manuel in the semifinals. Carpenter took the bye at three cars.
Sunday Colonial Classic Results
Sunday’s $5K races were hampered by a strong unscheduled thunderstorm and some oil downs which made it impossible to finish the race prior to the curfew.
With that, the VMP crew and the racers worked together and completed racing through the quarterfinal round where the purse was split between the remaining racers.
Some of the same names mentioned earlier were still in contention when racing was halted on Sunday evening. Jeff Serra, the Saturday $10K Top ET winner, was one of the five remaining racers. He was joined by Corey Manuel, Robbie Hamilton, Tyler Ryan, and Bubba Chuck.
In the footbrake class, Devin Dudley was once again in the money round. Dudley was joined in the quarterfinals by Chris Dixon (who was double entered), Tesz Powell, Dave Dissinger, and Chris Moren.
And that brought a conclusion to the 2019 Flatout Gaskets Colonial Classic presented by Calvert Kettle Corn. The Loose Rocker team once again proved they are some of the best in the business and continue to put on some of the best races in the country.
