Midwest Moisture Update:

As a racer in the Midwest once said to me, “Why do we live here?” It’s June 7th and most of the racers at my local track have yet to make a pass down the track.  Why, because of that wonderful thing called mother nature of course.

We have had an abundance of rain which has forced the cancellation of many events around us.  Byron Dragway and its employees spent hours upon hours trying to get the track ready for the bracket programs opening Memorial Day weekend.

Mother nature however had other plans.  Four inches of rain fell within a few days leading up to the event. This forced the cancellation of a great weekend program that included $2,500/$5,000/$2,500 to win races.

Finally on Track

The following weekend Mother Nature cooperated and racers finally hit the track.  The event kicked off with a $2,500 to win Box/No Box combo race Saturday.

The No Box representative Mark Nettesheim, wheeling his ’83 Camaro, grabbed the win over Box racer Vince Mistrata in his dragster.  Nettesheim was set on kill all day long with a string of low .00 lights.

Sunday brought on the big money with a $5,000 Happy Gilmore check handed to the winner of the combo final.  Doug Kruse, in his 3rd Gen Camaro, from the box side used a .003-pack in the final to take the win over Herman Zehnder.

Kruse was also involved in the closest race of the weekend. His fifth round margin of victory was .0000, practically a dead heat.
