2019 AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals Predictions

With each NHRA national event DragChamp’s sportsman preview includes an overview of each class. In addition, we select the DragChamp Picks to win the race. Here are this week’s picks.

Competition Eliminator – 34 Car Field

The Comp field will be one of the largest of the season. Hitters from across the country fill the entry list including David Rampy, Greg Kamplain, Bruno Massel, and Doug Engels.

DragChamp pick to win:

Clark Smiley – One of the coolest cars in drag racing with a blown small block under the hood. It’s not only cool but it’s fast too!

Super Stock – 60 Car Field

Vic Penrod 2019 Route 66 Nationals Super Stock Champ
Vic Penrod

Jacob Pitt and Vic Penrod come into the event chasing points. Kyle Rizzoli currently leads the national standings but both Division 4 racers have a chance to over take him. Penrod could do so this weekend with final round finish while Pitt will need two late round finishes on the national level to have a shot.

DragChamp picks to win:

Jimmy Hildalgo Jr. – I’ll take Cooter for the win! He’s been too quiet lately on the national level.

Emmons Motorsports – I’m taking the whole team against the field! The Emmons clan, or the Lucas Brothers as my kids kindly call them, are hell on wheels at the Motorplex.

Stock Eliminator – 56 Car Field

Slate Cummings Moser Shootout
Slate Cummings

Brenda Grubbs, Austin Williams, and Slate Cummings all have a shot at the world championship. This weekend will pretty much seal their fate as each of them will need late round finish to keep their hopes alive.

DragChamp picks to win:

Slate Cummings – Hard to bet against Baby Gap at Ennis. He doesn’t suck!

Austin Williams – A-dub is another racer that knows how to get it done at his home track.

Wes Neely – This dude has been killing it lately competing in local bracket races. Look for him to remain hot this weekend.

Super Comp – 60 Car Field

Chris Dodd 2019 Jegs Allstars Super Comp Champ

Chris Dodd comes to Ennis fresh off a victory at the Midwest Nationals. The JEGS Allstar champ will be looking to add another trophy to his collection this weekend.

Brian Preszler, currently #5 in the world, is picking up full points this weekend. A semifinal finish or better would almost lock up the Super Comp world championship.

DragChamp picks to win:

Mike Green – A little bit of a dark horse bet here, but Mike has been really good on the divisional side this year.

Tommy Phillips – Doesn’t race much any more but the dude practically owns the SC/SG at the Motorplex.

Jack Collier – Last year’s event winner is always a tough out.

Super Gas – 61 Car Field

Capp wins moser shootout
Jim Rod Capp

Jim Rod Capp comes into the event holding down the #9 spot in the championship points. To win the world, he’ll need two late round finishes at the national level. This would be a great week to get one of those.

DragChamp picks to win:

Bo Butner – The Pro Stock star still holds an outside shot at the SG world championship. Needs a win this week to make things easier.

Joleigh Mitchell – The Super Gas rookie has made waves this season including a late round showing at the U.S. Nationals.

Vernon Rowland – Been in three national event finals this year and won two! Seems like a great pick to me.

Super Street – 41 Car Field

Francesca Giroux
Francesca Giroux

Val Harmon, Gary Stinnett, Tommy Phillips, Ray Dew, and Francesca Giroux headline the a stout 10.90 field. Picking a winner from this group is a crap shoot.

DragChamp picks to win:

Gary Stinnett – I don’t believe he’s ever won in S/ST but I don’t think he’ll have to wait much longer.

John Leibham – Talented young racer should make some noise this week!

Top Sportsman – 32 Car Field

Larry Demers Top Sportsman
Larry Demers

A host of West Coast players will look to make their moves in the national points chase. Doug Crumlich, Richard Okerman, Joe Mellof, and Ted Kellner have all made the long haul to Texas for a shot at glory.

Brainerd and INDY winner Larry Demers is sure to make some noise this weekend. He’s also still in contention for the championship.

DragChamp picks to win:

Keith Raferty – I’ve watched this guy destroy this class in his fast Camaro on many occasions.

Kamron Wright – Division 4 player should be in the mix on Sunday.

Factory Stock Showdown – 20 Car Field (16 Qualifiers)

arthur kohn us nationals

With the championship decided and the season coming to a close, racers will try to finish strong while getting ready for 2020.

DragChamp pick to win:

Arthur Kohn – The COPO racer has been so close this year, would love to see him take home the Wally at Ennis.
