Jimmy Daniels made two final rounds on Saturday night to lead the winners at the NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway.
CHARLOTTE – With an unfavorable weather forecast for Sunday, the Lucas Oil sportsman classes ran to completion on Saturday night at zMax Dragway. Jimmy Daniels was the star of the evening winning his first NHRA national event in Stock and just missing the double in Super Stock.

Robbie Draughon not only captured his first NHRA national event victory at zMAX Dragway, he prevented Jimmy Daniels from the weekend double. In the final round, Draughon drove his stick-shifted SS/AM Corvette to a dead-on 8.796 for a .003 margin of victory.
Danniels posted his worst light of eliminations, a .056, in the final and ran .018 over his 10.26 dial-in to come up short in his bid to double up.
Although Jimmy Daniels came up short in the Super Stock final, he pulled off the win in Stock just minutes before running the Super Stock final. Daniels, the four-time HEMI Challenge winner, was .001 take .001 in the final to defeat the A/SA ’15 Corvette of Cody Phillips.
Driving his H/SA ’85 Camaro, Daniels used a .001 light and a .030 above 11.380 to force Phillips under his dial. Phillips was .058 at the tree and -.026 under his 10.53 dial on the top end.
Jonathan Anderson completed the season sweep at zMAX Dragway after winning for the second time at the Charlotte facility this season. Anderson captured the 4 Wide Nationals title earlier this season and returned in the Fall to complete the sweep.
In the final round, Anderson paired against Michelle Furr who was competing in her third final of the season. Anderson was .013 take .017 to post a winning 8.933 lap against Furr’s .039 reaction and .02 above effort. Furr was stellar at the tree throughout eliminations but picked a bad time to miss the tree in the final.
The victory is Anderson’s fourth in five career final rounds. The win also improved his chances at a Super Comp world championship. To capture the season title, Jonathan will need to find more win lights in his final LODRS race of the season. To learn more about Jonathan Anderson, click here.
Much like Super Comp, the Super Gas final was a battle of the titans. Multi-time world champ and DragChamp pre-race pick Sherman Adcock and sportsman racing super star Johnny Labbous.
The final was the 15th for Labbous and the 27th for Adcock. Labbous grabbed a .010 to .034 lead off the line and converted it into a 9.927 to 9.898 breakout win. Both racers were grabbing some brake pedal at the finish line but Labbous did a better job of getting slowed down.
The win was Labbous’ seventh NHRA national event victory and his second at this event.
Former world champ Kevin Brannon drove his wife’s dragster to his first NHRA national event victory at zMAX Dragway. Appearing in his third final, Brannon got behind at the stripe to win a close double-breakout race against Brooke Foley.
Foley came into the event riding high after winning the Top Dragster title at the Division 1 LODRS event at Virginia Motorsports Park the week prior.
KB carried a slight reaction time advantage off the line, .013 to .017. At the stripe, Foley got there first by .005 to go -.020 under her 7.48 dial-in. Brannon was slightly closer to his dial running a 7.059 on his 7.07 prediction for the big win.
Kevin was also the DragChamp pre-race pick to win Top Dragster. In the semifinals, he took out our other pick, Aaron Stanfield.
