RICHMOND – Lucas Oil sportsman competitors had a busy day at Virginia Motorsports Park on Friday. Racers took to the track for qualifying runs and time trials in preparation for final eliminations.

Super Stock
Hemi Challenge racer Bucky Hess drove his SS/AH ’68 Barracuda to the pole in Super Stock. Bucky’s beautiful ‘Cuda posted a -1.107 under 8.493 to claim the top spot. Two-time 2019 Lucas Oil winner Marion Stephenson filled the two spot with a -1.102 under 9.548 lap in his GT/IA ’06 Camaro.

Stock Eliminator
Marion Stephenson may have missed the number one spot in Super Stock by a few thousandths but he got the job done in Stock. Stephenson grabbed top spot in Stock with a -1.051 under 10.199 in his B/SA ’15 Camaro.
Former Pro Stock racer and current drag racing school instructor Roy Hill was second with a -1.019 under 8.981 in his FS/B ’12 Mustang.

Top Dragster
After three qualifying sessions on Friday, two-time 2019 national event champion Anthony Bertozzi stood on top. Bertozzi’s 6.144, 223 mph lap bested the 26-car field. Steve Furr trailed Bertozzi by a “thou” with his 6.145 effort.

Factory Stock Showdown
The Factory Stockers are back in action this week in Richmond. After some additional parity adjustments by the NHRA Tech Dept., the qualifying ladder looked a little different.

The latest adjustments obviously affected the Cobra Jet’s more than anyone. After dominating the first two events, the Ford’s were chasing the Chevrolet’s during the first two qualifying sessions.
Randy Taylor drove is ’19 COPO to the top spot with a 7.956 ET. The top five was all Chevrolet with Scott Libersher, Pete Gasko, David Janac, and Arthur Kohn.
The father-son Skillman team, winners of the season’s first two events, were 6th and 7th. Leah Pritchett and Mark Pawuk posted identical 8.054 laps to lock down the 11th and 12th positions respectively.
Factory Stock Qualifying Order after 2 Sessions

Factory Stock will make one more qualifying attempt on Saturday prior to moving into final eliminations Saturday afternoon.
