Brett Speer goes to two final rounds and wins the Super Stock class at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.
BRAINERD, MINN. – Brett Speer won for the third time at the national event level on Sunday after capturing the Super Stock class win in Brainerd. Driving his GT/LA ’89 Camaro, Speer defeated Jason DeForrest in the final round to claim his latest victory.
In addition to his Super Stock win, Speer also raced into the final round of Stock Eliminator. Though he would fall to class winner Chris Knudsen, Speer’s two finals were the top sportsman performance of the weekend.

Speer’s road to the final began with a round one victory over a red-lighting Gene Mosbek. Brett then moved past Dennis Nelson after his opponent missed the tree.
Rick Johnson red-lighted in the third round sending Speer into a fourth round match up with national points leader Joe Santangelo. Speer was .020 take .008 to down Santangelo and move into the semifinals.
There Dan Zrust left -.009 too early advancing Speer to his second final of the day. In the final, DeForrest grabbed a slight lead at the tree, .024 to .032, but couldn’t convert the advantage into a win. DeForrest took .041 at the stripe to go -.011 under his 9.04 dial. Speer posted a .022 over 10.162 for the win.
