NORWALK – Chuck Beach returned to the rescheduled Summit Racing Equipment Nationals and came home with his second NHRA national event victory. Heavy rains forced the Summit Motorsports Park staff to postpone sportsman eliminations from the originally scheduled June date to September 5-6.
After six rounds of competition on Friday, Chuck Beach stood tall, claiming the NHRA Wally along with a special edition ice scoop trophy. Driving his ’68 F/SA Barracuda, Beach benefited from two foul starts and two breakout passes by his opponents.
Beach won the first two rounds after both opponents took too much stripe to go under their respective dial-ins. In round three, Julie Biermann left way early to advance Beach into round four.
There Beach matched up against Mike Cotten in a head-up F/SA shoot out. With both drivers posting .04x reactions, Beach muscled ahead to post the 10.692 to 10.816 victory.
The round four race was a two-for-one as Beach received a bye run to the final round. Chuck posted his best reaction of eliminations, a .005, on the bye run.
In the final round, Beach would pair up against Jeff Myers and his ’15 FS/A Camaro. Myers made the final on the strength of solid reaction times and a consistent race car. While he consistently ran near his dial-in, Myers’ opponents struggled to run close to their’s.
After posting back-to-back dead-on runs, Myers had problems at the starting line in the final resulting in a -.499 foul start. Beach cruised to an 11.063 on his 10.90 dial-in on his final round parade lap.
