Joe Santangelo wins his fifteenth NHRA national event Wally at the Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol.
BRISTOL – The wins continue to follow NHRA class racer Joe Santangelo. He added another Wally to his trophy case today with his Super Stock victory at Bristol Dragway. To earn his latest win, Santangelo took out red-hot Ricky Decker in the final.
After a string of teen lights in the first five rounds, Santangelo posted a .024 reaction in the final, his worst of eliminations. Decker was slightly better at the start posting a .016 light to grab the advantage.
As they moved down track, Decker ran off the dial allowing Santangelo to hang a nose on him for the win. Santangelo took .005-second at the stripe for his second national event win of the season in his third final.
With a bye to the final on the line, Santangelo took down a red-lighting Tyler Bohannon in round four. Bohannon was the DragChamp pre-race pick to win.
The win was Santangelo’s second national event win of the season. He also won Super Stock at the Virginia Nationals last month.
Decker continues his hot start to the 2019 season with his fourth final round of the year. He’s been in two Lucas Oil division finals and won a $5,000 SS/STK combo race in addition to his runner up today.
