Justin Jenkins won his fifth NHRA national event at the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway.
ST. LOUIS – Justin Jenkins captured his fifth NHRA national event victory at the NHRA Midwest Nationals and second of the season. Jenkins, competing in his eighth national event final, drove past Brandon Bakies in the final round to claim his second victory of the year.
Justin also won the Dodge Mile-High Nationals in Denver earlier this summer.
Justin opened eliminations with a win over a red-lighting Vic Penrod. Penrod, a championship contender, left -.007 too early to advance Jenkins. In his second round encounter with Darrin Christen, Jenkins was .030 take .007 to go dead-on zero to his 9.51 dial-in. Christen was .039 and -.002 under in the loss.
Jenkins advanced past Division 5 hitter Wyatt Wagner when he turned it -.005 red in round three. In the fourth round, Jenkins used a huge .024 to .089 holeshot to dispose of Larry Hodge.
The win gave Jenkins a bye to the final round where he paired against Division 4’s Brandon Bakies. Bakies earned a spot in the final after benefiting from four red-lights and a bye run.
In the final, Jenkins used a .015 to .040 reaction time advantage to take a .0106 margin of victory at the stripe. His .051 over 9.561 was more than enough to cover Bakies’ .036 over 9.696.
