The Mid Atlantic .90 Association crowned its 2019 champions at Cecil County Dragway. Keith Mayers, Iggie Boicesco, and Tom Slater won the 2019 series championships.
Cecil County Dragway, Rising Sun, Md (Sept 21-22nd) – The Mid Atlantic .90 Series closed out a successful 2019 season in Northeast Maryland. On Saturday, former Division 1 Top Dragster Champion Kara Stine made the transition into Super Comp by claiming her first victory.
Stine, took down Greg Hays in a battle of first time finalists. Stine got the jump at the hit with a .009 to .033 and lead all the way with an 8.910 to 8.887 victory.
In Super Gas, Rick Homan also claimed his first victory by taking down Marc Marsico. At the jump, Homan found himself behind (.017 to .030) but, Marsico got loose allowing the Allentown, Pa resident to drive by for victory.
Rounding out Day 1, Rick Mattioli claimed his first victory of the year in Super Street and closed the gap in the points chase with a victory over Kelli Barbato 10.916 to 10.886.
On Sunday and Race # 9, the 2019 Championships would be decided early in 2 of the 3 classes. In Super Street, the only person eligible to knock off Keith Mayers was Saturday’s winner Rick Mattioli but, a round 1 exit handed the win to Mayers for his 4th Championship in the series.
In Super Gas, George Smith also lost early handing the championship to Iggie Boicesco. This would be Boicesco’s 7th Championship in the series 25+ year history.
Rounded out the three would be Super Comp, which went down to the wire but, in the end, Tom Slater squeezed out a 7 point lead over Steve Everett to hand him his first championships.
Sunday’s winners included Jeff Livezey Jr. over Kevin Scholl in Super Comp, Hank Smith over Boicesco in Super Gas and Dan Walleigh footbraked his way to victory over Jay Neville in Super Street.
