Shawn Carter wins Super Gas at Heartland Nationals
Shawn Carter wins Super Gas final round at NHRA Heartland Nationals.
TOPEKA – Shawn Carter collected NHRA win number two today at the 2019 Heartland Nationals. To earn the event victory, Carter had to get past his father in round one.

After failing to pull into the lanes correctly, the father/son duo met in the first round of Super Gas. Shawn out dueled his father Larry in a double-breakout contest to advance to round two.

Carter wasn’t his best on the tree during eliminations but drove the finish line to perfection to earn the Super Gas title. In the final, Carter took the advantage at the over first-time finalist Colin Becker. While Becker had been stellar at the tree, he picked a bad time to miss it in the final.

With a slight advantage at the hit, Carter got behind at the stripe to win the double-breakout affair. Becker hit the finish line first by .003-second but his 9.888 was further under the index than Carter’s 9.896.
In the semifinals, Carter prevented two-time 2019 finalist Shannon Brinkley from making his third final round appearance of the season. Becker stopped DragChamp pick to win the race Craig Maddox in the other semifinal pairing.
