Danny Nelson capped a strong three-week stretch of racing with a win at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park.
NORWALK – Chassis builder Danny Nelson capped off an impressive three week stretch with a win a the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals. His run started with a win at the Division 3 Lucas Oil series race at Bowling Green. He then raced to a semifinal finish at the U.S. Nationals. It culminated with a Top Dragster victory at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.
Nelson kicked off the weekend by grabbing the number one qualifying spot with a 6.101 lap to sit atop the 22-car field. He easily advanced to round two after his first round opponent, Tom Fisher, slowed down track.
This gave Nelson a bye in the second round where he cut his best light of eliminations, a stellar .001. In round three, Nelson once again took an easy win after Patrick Forster broke before staging.
At three cars, Nelson paired against Karma Hopper. Hopper grabbed the advantage at the tree, .009 to .024, but took a over a tenth at the stripe to go -.031 under the 6.98 dial-in. Nelson posted a safe .067 over 6.187 lap to advance to the final round.
There he would meet Tyson Fabish in a great match up. Nelson proved his finish line driving skills in the final by whomping the throttle to take .008 stripe. He was .007 take .008 whacking the throttle at 220 mph!
Fabish picked the wrong time to post his worst reaction of the event. His .040 light and 6.249 on a 6.240 dial-in wasn’t enough to stop Nelson.
The win has Danny Nelson positioned solidly in the top 10 nationally as he currently sits sixth in the Top Dragster standings.
