George Prather earned his second NHRA national event win at the Sonoma Nationals on Sunday. Prather outlasted the Top Dragster field for his latest victory.
SONOMA – George Prather defeated Phil Unruh in the Top Dragster finals at Sonoma Raceway to earn his second NHRA national event victory. Both drivers posted .01 reactions but Unruh slowed down-track to hand Prather the easy win.
Prather kicked off eliminations with two great reactions. He posted a .006 light and a .029 over 6.539 to take out John Richardson in round one. Prather followed that with his best light of the race, a .001, against Paul Gladden in round two.
In round three, he benefited from Jennifer Wiens -.007 redlight start which moved him into the semifinals. There Prather combined a .021 reaction with a .010 over 6.550 to force Jeff Havens into a breakout.
As mentioned, the final was anticlimactic after Phil Unruh broke after posting a .011 reaction time. Prather was right there with a .015 light of his own and drove to a .027 over 6.567 to claim his second national event win.
George is now two-for-two in national event final rounds with both wins coming at Sonoma Raceway. His last victory came in 2013.
