George Prather wins Top Dragster at Sonoma Nationals

George Prather earned his second NHRA national event win at the Sonoma Nationals on Sunday. Prather outlasted the Top Dragster field for his latest victory.

SONOMA – George Prather defeated Phil Unruh in the Top Dragster finals at Sonoma Raceway to earn his second NHRA national event victory. Both drivers posted .01 reactions but Unruh slowed down-track to hand Prather the easy win.

Prather kicked off eliminations with two great reactions. He posted a .006 light and a .029 over 6.539 to take out John Richardson in round one. Prather followed that with his best light of the race, a .001, against Paul Gladden in round two.

In round three, he benefited from Jennifer Wiens -.007 redlight start which moved him into the semifinals. There Prather combined a .021 reaction with a .010 over 6.550 to force Jeff Havens into a breakout.

As mentioned, the final was anticlimactic after Phil Unruh broke after posting a .011 reaction time. Prather was right there with a .015 light of his own and drove to a .027 over 6.567 to claim his second national event win.

George is now two-for-two in national event final rounds with both wins coming at Sonoma Raceway. His last victory came in 2013.
