Kamron Wright earned his first NHRA national event title in winning the Top Sportsman class at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals.
ENNIS, TX – Kamron Wright became the latest first-time NHRA national event winner after his Top Sportsman victory at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals. Racing at the famed Texas Motorplex, Wright drove through a tough field to earn his first win on the big stage.
Wright, the DragChamp pre-race pick to win, kicked off his run to the championship with an easy win over David Cuadra. Cuadra encountered problems and slowed allowing Wright to advance to round two.
There he took another easy win over Division 4 standout Lance Rutland. The typically tough Rutland missed the tree with a .123 reaction. Even though he posted a dead-on nine 7.699, it was no match for Wright’s .008 light and .078 over 6.678.
Wright caught another break in round three when Tim Wilson also missed the tree. Wilson’s .079 was well behind Wright’s .026 light. In addition to missing the tree, Wilson also ran well off the dial to advance Wright to the semifinals.
Wright posted a stellar .014 light in his semifinal match up against Division 7 hitter Ted Kellner. Although Kellner posted a solid .021 light, he couldn’t run the number sending Wright to his first national event final.
Joining Wright in the final was fellow first-time finalist Bengt Blomberg. Both racers posted killer reaction with Blomberg grabbing a slight edge .007 to Wright’s .010. At the top end, Wright’s .026 over 6.626 was too much for Blomberg’s .054 over 6.834.
Congrats to Kamron Wright and his family on their first national event win!
