Sportsman racing super star Kevin Brannon captured his first NHRA national event win on Sunday at the Carolina Nationals.
CHARLOTTE – Kevin Brannon has won just about everything there is to win in drag racing except a NHRA national event. That all changed on Sunday at zMAX Dragway win he defeated Brooke Warren-Foley in the Top Dragster final round.
Brannon was spectacular at both ends of the track throughout eliminations. Although he was almost one second slower than most of his opponents, Kevin drove the finish line extremely well. In addition, he averaged a stellar .013 reaction time!
Kevin’s path to the winners circle began with a round one victory over Vance Houston. After both drivers posted .01x lights, Brannon took the win after his .021 over 7.081 outpaced Houston’s .055 over 6.255.
With a third round bye hanging in the balance, Brannon took a close .008 win over Mike Coughlin in round two. Brannon’s .020 and two above 7.071 was just enough to edge past Coughlin’s .024 and two above 6.175.
Aaron Stanfield’s .011 light and 6.204 (6.17 dial-in) came up .016 short against Brannon in the semifinals. Brannon was .010 and .019 over his 7.06 dial to move into his third NHRA national event final round.
Brooke Warren-Foley made the final round for the second consecutive week. A week ago she picked up the Top Dragster win at the Division 1 LODRS event at Virginia Motorsports Park. She raced to her first national event final on the strength of killer reactions (.009 average) and a consistent dragster.
The final was a great race between two talented racers. Kevin took a slight .013 to .017 lead at the tree and converted it into a double-breakout win at the top end. His -.011 under 7.059 was a winner after Brooke posted a -.020 under 7.460.
Congratulations to Kevin Brannon and his team on their big win in Charlotte.
