Lester Johnson wins Route 66 Top Sportsman Title
CHICAGO – A year after getting disqualified in the final round, Lester Johnson finally sealed the deal in winning the NHRA Route 66 Nationals.
In the 2018 final round, Johnson’s header touched a timing cone resulting in a disqualification. He made no errors today in defeating Brandon Baxter for the 2019 Top Sportsman crown.
The win, Johnson’s second in national event competition, helped ease the frustrations from a year earlier. Johnson was .019, dead three in the final forcing Baxter into a -.003 breakout.
