Kris Whitfield Racer Blog June 2019 – Streaking
Kris Whitfield Racer Blog June 2019 – We’re Going Streaking!
Okay so the title may be a little misleading, but hopefully you’re all here for the right reasons! If you’ve been following along on Drag Champ or on the Whitfield Racing social media channels you’ve probably seen that my team and I have enjoyed a nice little streak of success lately.

As much as I try to focus my blog posts on things other than just myself, I can’t help but dedicate this month to reliving some of the memories we’ve made in the recent weeks!

I’ll rewind it back to the beginning of June with win #1 and an important life milestone that may not be directly racing related, but certainly has a huge impact on everything in life (which is obviously heavily racing-oriented).

A New Whitfield
On June 2nd I said “I do” to the new Mrs. Whitfield (Alexis as most people know her). I like to introduce her now as my ex-girlfriend, and she reciprocates by introducing me as her “first husband”.
If nothing else, there’s some insight to our 5-year relationship that we finally culminated with marriage. We were joined by family, friends, and racers on a beautiful spring day and we are proud and grateful to have the day officiated by Racer’s for Christ pastor Ken Webb.
I would not be doing my new bride justice if I did not credit her for all subsequent victories in life and in racing from here on out.
$10,000 Shootout Victory
Win #2 came just a week after the wedding. Racing–great honeymoon right? Except Lexi had just started a new job and was unable to join us on the trip. However, being the dedicated racers that we are, my dad and I made the trip over the Rocky Mountains westward to Western Colorado Dragway in Grand Junction, Colorado in search of a big payday.

The format of the event included a couple smaller races but the main event was a $10k on Saturday night. It actually started in brutal fashion Saturday morning when I ran into a perfect package followed by a .008 package in the buyback round.

Despite the brutality in the Saturday morning race, by night’s end we stood in the winner’s circle for the main event holding the big check. We also received a “Top Gun” themed cowboy hat and belt buckle to commemorate the $10k win.
For a track that in year’s past had completely kicked my butt, it was nice to finally break through, and in a big way!

We’re Streaking Now
Win #3 and the most recent success was this past weekend. As my friends at Drag Champ have documented in incredible fashion for me, we had an absolutely memorable weekend at the Lucas Oil Division 5 race at Bandimere Speedway.
It started out on Friday where I qualified for the Aeromotive Super Shootout. Me and seven other well-dialed Super Comp racers vied for the glass Wally, which I was fortunate to end the day holding.

Though a nice treat, the focus was on the big race. Bandimere Speedway did an incredible job of marketing the event and bringing in a great fanbase to fill the stands which added to the experience.
Prior to this race I had never made it into the final round of a divisional event (admittedly we don’t travel to many of them so our opportunities are limited). I was happy, though not content, with getting into the finals in both Super Comp and Super Gas.
I rode the momentum of the past couple weeks to the victory in both classes to cap off an incredible 3 weeks.

Unfortunately, in the semi-final round of Super Comp a small vacuum-check fitting came loose in the valve cover of the dragster and an aluminum nut got loose inside the motor.
Luckily we avoided catastrophic damage on the final run, but our next week will be comprised of tearing that motor apart to avoid further damage. It’s all part of the fun though!
We will get it done and be ready to go for the next race!
