LUFKIN, Texas – After what seems like months of lock down due to COVID-19, racers are finally getting back to the track. Once it was announced a week ago that Texas was open for business, promoters Cole and Slate Cummings quickly put together a two-day $10,000 to win event at Pine Valley Raceway.

The aptly named Down with the Sickness Race offered Super Pro racers a shot at $10K on Friday and another $10K on Saturday. They also offered $5K each day for the No-Box crowd. After early morning rain washed away most of Friday’s racing, they decided to combine both races into one $20K on Saturday.
Friday Gamblers Results
After the track was dried late in the evening, the promoters put together a Low Roller and a High Roller Gamblers race. To no one’s surprise, Hunter Patton earned the win in the first race. In the No-Box Gamblers race, teammates Charlie Lockhart and Lucas Walker pulled a split and quit in the final round. Next up was the High Roller Gambler’s race where Dale Scates earned the big win.

Saturday Main Event Results
Saturday brought beautiful weather and a shot at $20,000 for Super Pro and $10,000 for No-Box. At the end of the day it was a familiar face in the winners circle as Dale Scates defeated Stephen Hughes to claim the big win. On the No-Box side, Slade Brown defeated Michael Scates, Dale’s father, to earn the big check.

Saturday Gamblers and Shootout Results
Once the main event was completed, Cole and Slate put together another Gamblers race for Super Pro and No-Box. Britt Cummings held a 16-car shootout for an entry into the Guaranteed Million Dollar Race.
Hunter Patton drove through the field once again to earn his second victory of the weekend. Stephen Hughes followed his main event runner up with another second place finish in the Gamblers race.

Bryan Day drove Dee LUV Macheen to the No-Box Gamblers race win! And to close out the race weekend, Koy Collier drove his dad’s dragster to the win in the Guaranteed Million shootout. The win earned Koy a spot in the Guaranteed Million which will be held in October.

Although the event began with a little rain on Friday morning, the rest of the weekend was awesome. The Cummings boys know how to run a race and once it again, it showed. I can’t say enough great things about their events. The staff at Pine Valley Raceway was friendly as usual and the track held up well all weekend.
