DragChamp 2020 Class Racing Top 10 List
1 – Bryan Worner
2020 Super Stock World Champ Bryan Worner is our 2020 Class Racer of the Year! Worner dominated the Super Stock class in route to his first national title and joined his brother as a Super Stock World Champ. In a year full of constant schedule changes, Worner found a way to persevere posting the highest points total of any Lucas Oil Series competitor in any class.
The highlight of Bryan’s season was his three final round weekend at VMP. Worner first claimed the rain-delayed New England JEGS Sportsnationals victory on Friday night. He followed with another victory in the first LODRS event on Saturday. He finished off the weekend with a runner-up in the second half of the doubleheader weekend.
2 – Jody Lang
One of most overdue accomplishments in the history of Class Racing had to be Jody Lang winning the Stock Eliminator World Championship. Lang, one of the best racers in the history of Stock Eliminator, finally claimed his high anticipated championship. Jody closed out the season winning the NHRA Dodge Finals to lock up the championship.
3 – David Latino
David Latino made his impact felt in Stock and Super Stock after finishing with Top 10 finishes nationally in both classes. Latino’s highlight of the season had to be his double at the Gatornationals in March. Later in the season Latino drove to two finals once again at the LODRS in San Antonio although he just missed his second double of the season after splitting the finals.
4 – Byron Worner
As if the Worner name didn’t get enough attention this year, Byron Worner joined his brother at the top of the Super Stock standings. Byron finished second to his brother Bryan in both the Division 1 standings and the national standings. Congrats to both brothers on a dominating season.
5 (tie) – Justin Lamb
Five time World Champ Justin Lamb came alive in the last month of the year to lock in Top 5 finishes nationally in Stock and Super Stock. Lamb earned two LODRS divisional titles along with a National event victory in the last few races of the season to finish off strong seasons in both classes.
5 (tie) – Kyle Rizzoli
Over the last couple of seasons, Kyle Rizzoli has been one of the most successful class racers in the country. Rizzoli finished the 2019 season just one round short of the national title. He came back with a vengeance earning Top 10 finishes nationally in both Stock and Super Stock. One of biggest weekends of the season came at the Midwest Nationals where he claimed the Stock Eliminator title.
6 – Craig Bourgeois
Raging Cajun Craig Bourgeois earned his second NHRA Competition Eliminator national championship in 2020. Bourgeois won five times on the season including a double up at the Division 4 LODRS doubleheader at the Texas Motorplex. He finished off the championship run with a victory at the NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston.
7 – Joe Mozeris
Comp racer Joe Mozeris finished the season with three LODRS wins and a runner-up to claim the Division 7 championship. Mozeris added a national event victory at the JEGS Sportnationals in Vegas. The highlight of the season was a double at the Sonoma LODRS!
8 – Emmons Brothers
The Emmons family racing team is one of the most famous and successful families in class racing. 2020 proved to be a memorable year for the Lucas Oil sponsored Texas racers. Triplets Terry, Jerry, and Gary Emmons each found the national event winners circle in 2020.
The most memorable weekend occurred at the Big Go. Terry Emmons defeated class great Dan Fletcher at the U.S. Nationals to earn the Super Stock title. Brother Jerry joined the fun after winning the Stock Eliminator title to seal the family double at INDY! Gary joined his brothers with a victory at the Spring Nationals at their home track in Houston. Terry finished the season with another victory at the NHRA Finals.
9 – Parker DeVore
Another Division 4 racer who enjoyed a standout season was Parker DeVore. DeVore raced to numerous Stock Eliminator victories and came up just short in the U.S. Nationals final round. The talented Oklahoma racer finished the season strong posting a second place finish in the national standings.
10 – Missy Phillips
After a five year layoff, Missy Phillips jumped back into the driver’s seat this season and proceeded to win the Division 2 Stock Eliminator championship. Missy’s championship is even more impressive given she missed pre-season testing and only made five of the seven available races.
