Butner, Mudd, and Waack take home the top prizes during TB Promotions’ Derby City $5K practice tree race.
SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY – Tyler Bohannon and Brian Whitworth of TB Promotions had a successful start to the 2021 season with their first practice tree event.
The Derby City $5K brought big money, heavy horsepower, and the opportunity to cash in at big car events later this year- all with the release of a button!
Four races and 480 entries were wrapped up in just under six hours on Saturday. There was a ton of fun and even more racing, so let’s get to the results.
Derby City $5K
The eye-catching main event paid $5,000 to the winner and $1,000 for runner up. The semifinalists earned $500 and $250 went home with each quarterfinalist.
At the end of the night, Bo Butner earned the big $5K win over Joey Shipp.
Bottom Bulb Bonus
The winner of the bottom bulb race, Dylan Mudd, picked up $500 and an entry into Final Call Promotions NoDelay Nationals. Mudd moved on to the main event where he lost in the quarterfinals.
64 entries had a chance to win a complete 632 engine kit courtesy of PBM Performance Parts, Erson Cams, and World Products. The runner up would take home $1,500, semifinalists earn $500, and the quarterfinalists picked up $250 each.
Brandon Waack won the shootout over Joey Cotton and takes the 632 engine kit back home to Michigan. Even better, Waack earned an entry into this event by competing in the Corona Lockdown Online Practice Tree Challenge!
North vs. South Shootout
The final race was a battle between the North and South for bragging rights and $1,200 cash. Each team consisted of six top bulb drivers, one bottom bulb competitor, and one female racer.
The North’s team captain and bottom bulb racer was CJ Yeagar. He chose Mike Matty, Jr, Justin Vickers, Steven Davenport, TJ Jordan, Brett Williamson, Matt Dadas, and Paige Coughlin to complete the team.
The South’s team captain was Blake Fuqua with Austin Richardson handling the bottom bulb duties. The remaining southern competitors were Hunter Patton, Jody Davies, Bo Boatner, Zac Fulcher, and Blake Richardson.
At the end of the pairings, it was up to the ladies to settle the score. Haley Audra was .002 to Paige Coughlin’s .003, meaning the South took the overall win.
Last but not least, TB Promotions raffled one weekend entry each into the Derby City $50K and Derby City $100K. Jimbo Fields earned a ticket to the $50K June 3-6, while Bill Busam can be found at the $100K September 9-12.
