Luke Bogacki and Jeff Serra earn the final two checks during the SPDC Raceshop Great American Guaranteed Million at Capital City Motorsports Park.
MONTGOMERY, AL – Sunday marked the fifth day of racing at Capital City Motorsports Park for the SPDC Raceshop Great American Guaranteed Million, presented by Chevrolet. Numerous victories have already been claimed throughout the week.
On Wednesday, KC Pesnell and Steve Sisko each earned a dragster while Lane Dicken won the 64-car Gamblers Race over Tyler Bohannon. The Guaranteed Million dollar main event was completed on Saturday, where Tyler Bohannon took the historic win over Stephen McCrory.
Elimination rounds of Thursday’s Moser $80K were run in between rounds of Sunday’s Moser $40K in order to complete both events by the end of the night. Drivers braved the cool weather in hopes of wheeling into the winner’s circle on the final day of competition.
Nasty Nick Hastings wins the bottom bulb portion of both Moser events, while Dan Fletcher and Jody ‘Cool’ Simoneaux earned runner up honors.
Thursday Moser $80K
By eighth round, only five drivers remained eligible for the $80,000 top prize: Luke Bogacki, Adam Russell, Carson Wheeler, Charlie Crosby and Chad Duke.
Wheeler was .013 and ran one above to take the win beside Duke who was on a breakout pass. Bogacki had a 2 thou starting line advantage and took the double breakout win over Crosby. Russell used the bye to earn his spot in the semifinal.
Wheeler takes the tree on his bye run and waits to see who will meet him in the final. Bogacki has the tree by .013 and runs one above for the win while Russell has problems down track and coasts across the finish line.
Bogacki in the roadster takes on Wheeler in his dragster as they stage up in the Moser $80K final round. Cool Hand Luke let’s go .007 and runs two above for the win while Wheeler shakes the tires to be a tenth above his dial with an .012 reaction time.
The reigning NHRA Super Gas Champion, Luke Bogacki, claims yet another victory in his deadly Corvette roadster. It’s also worth noting that Bogacki simultaneously wheeled his Vega down to sixteen cars in the Moser $40K race.
Sunday Moser $40K
Sunday’s Moser $40K had eight remaining entries, but only seven competitors, looking for cash in the last race of the weekend. They were AJ Ashe, Cory Gulitti, Chris Bear, Mike Barber, Kyle Cultrera, Nick Hastings, and a double-entered Jeff Serra.
Ashe is .012 total to take the win over Barber who was .009 and one above for the loss. Both drivers are .00x on the tree and run dead on, but Hastings’ .015 package earns the .001 margin of victory over Bear.
Serra lays down .019 total in both of his entries in order to eliminate Cultrera’s .028 light and Gulitti’s .022 package.
To kick off an insane semifinal round, both drivers are .001 at the hit but Ashe’s dead-on-seven pass leaves him 7 thou behind the .001 package of Serra. He returns to face the footbraking Nasty Nick Hastings in hopes of ending the race a round early. Hastings answers that by delivering an .015 package for the win while Serra is .015 on the tree and breaks out 3 thousandths.
The rematch is quickly settled on the starting line as Hastings is .013 red while Serra is .014 green to claim Sunday’s Moser $40K win. Last year’s Great American Guaranteed Million winner, Jeff Serra, just couldn’t leave this event without adding another win to his resume!
