Jeff Serra is Named DragChamp Racer of the Month for November
Tough and talented drivers Serra, Lloyd, Baehr, Ledford, Johnson, and Ezell battle for November’s Racer of the Month prize.
As the 2020 racing season raced to a conclusion, the month of November provided racers across the country a wealth of opportunities to close out a wild and unprecedented season. Las Vegas Motor Speedway provided West Coast racers a month of racing opportunities while the King of the Coast, SFG World Series, and Immokalee kept the East Coasters racing for big money.
As usual some of the biggest names in the sport continued to steal the headlines throughout the month of November. As we reviewed the November Top 10 Lists presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance, several racers grabbed our attention.
Our DragChamp Racer of the Month in October, Nasty Nick Hastings, once again showed out grabbing a $20,000 victory at the Loose Rocker Fall Footbrake Frenzy.

Marko Perivolaris made waves in Las Vegas picking up a couple of wins on consecutive weekends including a national event victory at the NHRA Finals along with a LODRS victory the next week. Lucas Walker ran himself in the final round to make yet another Top 10 appearance. Pro 1 Racing and Safety Products owner Jeff Helfer won the NHRA Summit ET National Championship for the third time to earn a nomination for the Racer of Month title.

The Contenders
As we dug deeper into the Top 10 List, a group of contenders including Andy Lloyd, Rick Baehr, Jeff Serra, Mike Ledford, Bradley Johnson, and Johnny Ezell all positioned themselves for shot at the Racer of the Month title.
Mike Ledford
Mike Ledford jumped into the spotlight with multiple wins and final round appearances in Florida in late November and early December. Ledford parked his S-10 pickup in two $10,000 finals at Immokalee picking up a win and runner-up over a three-day period. He followed with a $2,500 win and runner-up in the following weeks.

Johnny Ezell
JBR had been somewhat quiet lately by his standards but that all changed in late October and early November. On Halloween weekend at Ennis, Texas Johnny drove to a $10,000 win on Friday which also locked up the CP Racing Promotions 2020 points championship. A couple of weeks later Ezell scored again after collecting another $10,000 payday at the Turkey Beach Bash in Gulfport.

Andy Lloyd
Andy Lloyd dominated the Top 10 List for two straight weeks after winning $30,000 in a two-week span. Lloyd cashed for $20,000 at the Loose Rocker American Doorslammer Nationals at Piedmont before earning $10,000 the following week at the 2019 DragChamp Track of the Year, Virginia Motorsports Park.

Bradley Johnson
On the NHRA trail, Bradley Johnson enjoyed a wildly successful month in Las Vegas. Johnson entered the last few weeks of the season with a legitimate shot at the NHRA Top Dragster world championship. In consecutive weeks Johnson won TD at the LODRS event, the NHRA Finals, and made the final of the JEGS Sportsnationals. In the Sportsnationals final, Johnson needed a victory to claim the TD World title but came up short to settle for a third-place finish. Although he came up short in the TD final, he was also in the Super Gas final which he won to close out an outstanding month and 2020 season.

Slick Rick Beahr
Slick Rick Baehr didn’t race every week in November but made his presence felt when he showed up. In late October, Baehr raced himself in the No-Box final round at US 43 Dragway. A couple of weeks later Rick had a huge weekend at the Turkey Beach Bash in Gulfport, Miss. There Rick won the No-Box class on Friday and Saturday which moved him into the Top Bulb class. He finished with a semifinal finish in Friday’s $10K and went one round further on Saturday taking runner-up in the $25K main event. To win the No-Box class on Saturday, Baehr defeated Nasty Nick Hastings in back-to-back rounds! To wrap up the month, Baehr raced to two runner-up finishes and added a semifinal appearance at Cherokee Raceway.

So…Who Won?
And that brings us to the November Racer of the Month. Weeks removed from winning the Great American Guaranteed Million, with a broken racer car no doubt, Jeff Serra extended his hot streak in Florida.

The million-dollar race winner won $45,000 in a seven-day span between Immokalee and Palm Beach. His Florida run began with a $25,000 victory in Steve Witherow’s dragster at the Immokalee Winter Warm-up. Just days later, the talented graphic designer and big money bracket racer cashed again for $20,000 at the Dick Moroso Memorial race at Palm Beach. The two massive cashes along with his recent success in Memphis allowed Serra to edge out Rick Baehr to earn the DragChamp November Racer of the Month title.

How the winner is determined: The DragChamp Racer of the Month award is presented to the racer that makes the biggest impact on the Top 10 List during the month. To be considered for the Racer of the Month title, a racer must make at least one Top 10 appearance during the month. At the end of the month, we review the weekly lists, and select the racer that has made the biggest impact.
