World Footbrake Challenge XV Friday Results

Steve Collier claimed the first win of the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XV during the $8,000 Gamblers Race on Friday.

A less than ideal weather forecast couldn’t stop the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XV from filling the pits at Bristol Dragway! 375 entries roared down the eighth-mile during Thursday’s Test-N-Tune session before Mother Nature ended the action just prior to eliminations.

Intermittent rain showers continued to soak the premises into the early morning hours resulting in a weeping racetrack. Eventually, the racing surface was back to pristine condition thanks to the hard work of track staff. A late start and huge crowd of footbrakers forced an adjustment to this weekend’s schedule.

$8K Gamblers Race

Friday would now focus on completing the Gamblers Race, which was increased to pay $8,000 to the winner for only a $100 entry fee.

Each round prize from Friday’s main event were also distributed throughout the Gamblers Race. Two tech cards from the Gamblers Race were randomly chosen to receive a free entry into the BTE Labor Day $250K.

After the completion of the one-and-only time run for the weekend, it was time to begin eliminations. A no buyback or double entry format sent two cars down the track with only one returning for the next round of the Gamblers Race.

By round seven, the 320 entries had whittled down to 5 remaining drivers: Steve Collier, Chris Dixon, Adam Davis, Derek Simon, and Matt Dadas.

Dadas earned the bye run to claim his spot in the semifinal. Davis has problems on the starting line while Collier is .010 and coasts into the next round. Dixon turns on the red bulb, advancing Simon who was .005 and 3 thou under his dial.

Semifinal

Just like last year, Ohioans are looking to collect checks with Collier and Dadas staging up to see who would face Simon in the next round. Collier puts together .024 total leaving Dadas mathematically ineligible to move into the $8,000 final.

Final

Derek Simon had the starting line advantage with his .008 light, but runs too quick during the double breakout race. Steve Collier breaks out 3 thou to claim the first check of the weekend along with $8K.

The remainder of the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XV will feature Saturday’s $20,000 and Sunday’s $25,000 main events. New entry time runs will be at 8:30 AM, followed by first round of eliminations. Single day entries are $275, so there is still time to make your way to Bristol for the world’s greatest footbrake race!
