ENNIS, Tex. – As the 2021 NHRA races to the end of the year, all eyes will fall upon the Texas Motorplex this week for the 2021 Texas NHRA Fall Nationals. The Motorplex crew created something new for 2021 called the Stampede of Speed. The weeklong event brings music, rodeo, racing, and more to the famed Texas facility. The race week even includes the rescheduled sportsman classes from the Spring Nationals earlier this year.

After correctly predicting at least one winner for seven straight races, we dropped the ball on the Midwest Nationals. We completely forgot to write a preview for the Midwest Nationals and just like that, our streak was snapped. We’ll try to start a new streak this week.

The Texas NHRA Fall Nationals will showcase over 330 Lucas Oil sportsman racers competing in eight different classes. The schedule includes Comp, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Sportsman, and Top Dragster.

Before we look ahead to the 2021 Texas NHRA Fall Nationals, let’s look back at the 2020 event champions.

2021 Texas NHRA Fall Nationals Predictions

With each NHRA national event DragChamp’s sportsman preview includes an overview of each class. In addition, we select the DragChamp Picks to win the race. Here are this week’s picks.

Competition Eliminator – 14 Car Field

Brad Plourd

The 15-car Comp Eliminator field includes 2020 Top 10 finishers Chase Williams, and Don Thomas. Two of the coolest Comp cars on the planet are also in attendance. These include the ’66 Chevy II wagon of Rodger Brogdon and the blown small block powered GTO of Clark Smiley. Both cars should keep the fans entertained.

DragChamp pick to win:

Greg Kamplain – Veteran D3 runner has a fast dragster and should be a tough out this week.

Super Stock – 40 Car Field

Hayden Trumble

The Super Stock field is almost exclusively a Division 4 affair this week as only a couple of out-of-division racers are making the tow to Dallas. D4 hitters such as the Emmons Bros., David Latino, Korey Mawhee, Greg Stanfield, and more are chasing glory this week.

DragChamp picks to win:

Greg Stanfield – 4x World Champ has a shot at another title this year if he can turn on the final win light this week.

Christopher Dodd – Former winner of this race in Super Comp is due for a big win in his class car. Also, coming off a runner-up finish in Oklahoma over the weekend.

Stock Eliminator – 55 Car Field

Lowell Gerber

Much like the Super Stock field, the Stock Eliminator field is almost exclusively a Division 4 affair. One to watch this week is Wes Neely who was leading the Stock points for most of the season. He’s coming off a final round finish in Oklahoma which could give him a shot at the national title. Another strong finish could do the trick.

DragChamp picks to win:

Jacob Pitt – Tough D4 runner is overdue for a victory.

John Brimer – Veteran racer has been locked out of the winners circle for too long. Look for him to finish strong this weekend.

Super Comp – 71 Car Field

2020 fall nats
Christopher Dodd

The defending event champ, Christopher Dodd, will have his hands full this week with the likes of Hunter Patton, Tommy Phillips, Koy Collier, Austin Williams, and more.

DragChamp picks to win:

Tommy Phillips – Really hard to pick against TP at the Motorplex. He’s owned this place for years.

Jeromy Hefler – Although Jeromy doesn’t compete often in the 8.90 class, this guy is down right dominant at the Motorplex in pretty much anything he drives.

Super Gas – 50 Car Field

2020 fall nats
Evan Kowalski

Austin Williams leads the Super Gas field into battle this week. Coming off a win in Oklahoma, he should have some heavy momentum heading to a track he’s performed exceptionally well at. Veterans Clark Mundt, Jeff Lopez, Jim Capp, and Vernon Rowland should also be in the hunt come Sunday.

DragChamp picks to win:

Robert Rowan – This dude consistently lays down great laps. He’s won in Texas before so look for him to be in deep in Sunday.

Chris Eidson – Longtime hitter on the Dallas bracket racing scene. Knows this track as well as anyone.

Super Street – 41 Car Field

2020 fall nats
John Leibham

John Leibham has owned the 10.90 class at the Fall Nationals having won the last two events. There will be a contingent of Division 4 hitters looking to end his streak this weekend.

DragChamp picks to win:

Chris Chaney – Class racer turned 10.90 racer is a tough customer. Changing classes shouldn’t slow him down.

Tripp West – Talented bracket racer out of Oklahoma knows his way to the winners circle.

Top Sportsman – 34 Car Field

Allen Firestone Houston LODRS
Allen Firestone

The Top Sportsman field is loaded with talent this week. Darian Boesch, Allen Firestone, Bob Gulitti, and Mike Morehead top the entry this at Ennis.

DragChamp pick to win:

Allen Firestone – Oklahoma runner is one of the best in the class. It’s about time for him to park his Camaro in another national event winners circle.

Top Dragster – 27 Car Field

2020 fall nats
Scott Barker

As always, the fast dragster class is loaded for bear. Danny Nelson heads to Dallas leading the national points standings. We’ll see if he can hold off Aaron Stanfield, J.R. Baxter, and Darian Boesch this week among others.

DragChamp pick to win:

Dylan Hough – I think this west coast youngster hits the jackpot this week and collects his first national event victory!
