2021 Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals Predictions

With each NHRA national event DragChamp’s sportsman preview includes an overview of each class. In addition, we select the DragChamp Picks to win the race. Here are this week’s picks.

Competition Eliminator – 25 Car Field

Aragona New England

Class veterans Frank Aragona Jr. and Doug Engels lead the 25 car field into battle at Norwalk. They will be joined by the three Super Stock HEMI Dart’s of Jimmy Daniels, Jim Pancake, and Gary Wolkwitz. It’ll be interesting to see how well the Mopar’s can compete against the AH/SM index in Comp.

DragChamp picks to win:

David Billingsley – Veteran racer is due for a big weekend.

Super Stock – 60 Car Field

The Super Stock field will be nuts this week as the 60-car field is loaded with the biggest names in Divisions 1, 2, and 3. Hitters included the Worner Brothers, Dan Fletcher, Anthony Bertozzi, Tyler Bohannon, Jeff Taylor, Joe Santangelo, and more.

DragChamp picks to win:

Tyler Bohannon – TyBo can get it done in anything, anywhere. He’s overdue for a national event victory.

Brad Zaskowski – Stick-shift racer is as good as they come in Super Stock.

Dan Fletcher – He’s never won when I picked him but I think this is the week!

Stock Eliminator – 60 Car Field

Jeff Taylor jegs sportsnationals stock winner

The Stock entry list is dominated by Division 1 and 3 racers but also includes a handful of Division 5’s finest. Jeff Taylor, Joe Santangelo, and Randi Lyn Shipp are some of the big names on the entry list this week.

DragChamp picks to win:

Jeff Taylor – Multi-time world champ is still as competitive as ever.

Aaron Allison – Talented driver with great equipment makes a deadly combination.

Parker DeVore – Last season’s #2 ranked driver should be a player on Sunday.

Super Comp – 70 Car Field

The Super Comp field is much like Super Stock, unbelievably deep and talented. The entry list reminds me of a shark tank as it’s full of dangerous predators. Phil Smida will try to wade through the field and defend his 2019 event victory.

DragChamp picks to win:

Vernon Rowland – Wins pretty much everywhere he goes over the last couple of seasons.

Megan Strassweg – DragChamp team member is a win waiting to happen!

Ray Connolly – Veteran racer tends to shine against talented fields as it seems to bring out his A game.

Super Gas – 73 Car Field

John Labbous 2019 Jegs Allstars Super Gas Champ
John Labbous Jr.

Super Gas is the largest field of the event which seems to be a rarity nowadays. Jeremy Mason used a victory here in 2019 to jump start his championship run. We’ll see if he can duplicate that magic this week.

DragChamp picks to win:

Steve Hoyt – This guy consistently lays down great laps which should put him in the mix on Sunday.

Jacob Elrod – It’s about time for the former World Champ to park his new roadster in the winners circle.

John Labbous Jr. – Recent winner at New England could parlay that momentum into a championship run.

Top Sportsman – 25 Car Field

Jerry Albert 2019 INDY LODRS

The Top Sportsman field is also loaded with talent this week. Names such as Johnny Brooks, Curt Friedrich, Glenn Butcher, and Jeff Brooks stand out on the entry list.

DragChamp picks to win:

Jerry Albert – Division 3 ace is no stranger to the winners circle and he tends to run well at Norwalk.

Top Dragster – 22 Car Field

Ken Moses Top Dragster Winner New England nationals
Anthony Bertozzi

It’s disappointing the Top Dragster field will not have a bump this week as we all know just how fast the Division 3 cars are. Even so, the field includes a number of big names in the class which should make for some great racing.

DragChamp pick to win:

Dan Fletcher – Picking him twice this week in hopes he ends his current dry spell.

Factory Stock Showdown – 27 Car Field

David Barton 2019 Virginia Nationals Factory Stock
David Barton

Aaron Stanfield leads a tough 27-car Factory Stock Showdown field this week. Although Stanfield has been dominate over the last year, there are a number of contenders ready to take their shot at the champ.

DragChamp pick to win:

David Barton – Already picked up two Wally’s this year, seems to be the only one who can run with the Champ too.
