Darian Boesch wins the Top Sportsman / Top Dragster Racer of the Year title presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance for the second consecutive season

DragChamp TS / TD Racer of the Year Top 10 List
1 – Darian Boesch
Darian Boesch goes back-to-back winning the DragChamp / Laris Motorsports Insurance Top Sportsman / Top Dragster Racer of the Year title for the second consecutive season. The 2020 NHRA Top Sportsman world champ once again proved his driving talents after following up the championship with another strong season in 2021. Boesch posted Top 10 finishes nationally with a 3rd place finish in Top Sportsman and a 9th place finish in Top Dragster. He also won the Division 4 TS championship and finished 2nd in the D4 TD standings. The southern Louisiana native won four times in six finals on the season to secure the Racer of the Year title.
2 – Jimmy Lewis
Jimmy Lewis enjoyed a resurgence in 2021. Lewis, the 1998 Super Gas world champ, won three times on the national event level including a huge labor day victory at the U.S. Nationals. After a late season victory at the Fallnationals, Lewis and his wife Phylis, crisscrossed the country chasing the Top Sportsman championship. After posting four wins in five finals and adding two semifinal finishes, JL secured his second NHRA championship.
3 – Blake Peavler
Blake Peavler and his father Al enjoyed a huge season that culminated with Blake earning the NHRA Top Dragster world championship. Peavler, the Division 3 champion, won three times in four finals to earn his first TD national title. Blake’s father Al finished second in the D3 standings and also posted a Top 10 finish nationally.
4 – Nick Meloni
Nick Meloni grabs a Top 10 spot in the Racer of the Year standings after earning the PDRA Top Sportsman world championship. Meloni also just missed winning two championships after securing a second place finish in the PDRA Top Dragster class.
5 – Danny Nelson
Arkansas based chassis builder Danny Nelson hits the five spot after posting his third Top 3 Top Dragster finish nationally in the last three seasons. After winning the title in 2019, Nelson has been a fixture in the NHRA Top 5 ever since. This season Nelson posted a #2 finish nationally and came in fourth in the Division 3 standings. He won three times in four finals this season including two national event victories.
6 – Paul Mitsos
Paul Mitsos came oh so close to his first national championship after finishing second to Jimmy Lewis in the NHRA Top Sportsman chase. Mitsos won the Division 7 title and won twice on the season in four final round appearances.
7 – Jake Neibauer
Jake Neibauer enjoyed a successful season behind his Top Sportsman Corvette and his Top Dragster Altered. Neibauer won the Division 6 TS championship and added a fourth place finish in TD. The highlight of his season included a double up at the Boise Lucas Oil Series event where he won in both classes.
8 – Ross Laris
Laris Motorsports Insurance founder Ross Laris enjoyed another great season behind the wheel of his boosted dragster. Ross won two national events on the season and added a LODRS victory to secure a 3rd place finish nationally and a 3rd place finish in Division 4. His son Holden also finished in the Top 10 nationally and posted a second place finish in the Division 4 standings.
9 – Robert Fortuna
Robert Fortuna made the Top 10 List on a couple of occasions this season after doubling up at the D1 LODRS events and National Opens. Fortuna capitalized on three wins in six races this season to earn the D1 TS championship.
10 – Jeff Strickland
Perennial Top 10 player Jeff Strickland once again posted a Top 5 finish in Top Dragster after finishing the season fourth in the national points chase. Strickland won the D2 TD championship this season. As he’s done frequently in the past, Strickland doubled up late in the season posting wins in his Stocker and his dragster.
