DragChamp Top 10 List
1 – Austin Williams
A-dub was riding a heater coming into the NHRA Division 5 Lucas Oil Series doubleheader at Topeka last weekend. In the weeks leading up the the race Austin had won several races in numerous cars. He drove the Hefler Family’s Bronco II to the Pro class win at Xtreme Raceway and to a Doorcar Shootout win at the Redemption Rogue race in Ennis. He also added a Shootout runner-up at the Rogue event and was still in at 6 cars in the Index race when the rain came.
At the Summer Heat Nationals at I-30, Williams made 40 laps over the weekend going deep off the bottom and top both days. Along the way he also raced to a win and a runner-up in Ardmore in the Hefler’s shorty dragster. This past weekend Williams won Super Comp on Friday night at Topeka and followed with a runner-up on Sunday in Stock to cap off an incredible month of racing.
2 – Jeff Serra
There’s been two big money bracket races at Virginia Motorsports Park this year and Jeff Serra has won big at both events. At the first Triple Threat race, Jeff took home a $20,000 payday and followed that with a huge $75,000 victory on Saturday! Jeff’s car owner, Steve Witherow, also cashed for $10K on Friday night.
3 – Danny Angell
Danny Angell locks down the three spot this week after winning twice at Northern Michigan Dragway. Angell drove to the $2,000 Box victory on Friday night and followed that with a $10,000 No-Box victory on Saturday.
4 – Wesley Lockhart
Wesley Lockhart has been a consistent fixture on the Top 10 List over the last couple of months after winning on a weekly basis. Last week Wesley drove to Sikeston for the first time in a while and pulled off yet another big win. Not only did he win the $5K, he also drove his second entry down to three cars narrowly missing the sweep.
5 – Scott Sanders
In the last two weeks Scott Sanders has been in three finals winning two out of three. A week ago Sanders won at Shadyside and this past weekend he was runner-up in a $5K at Cherokee on Saturday and won on Sunday at Crossville.
6 – Double Up Winners
Robert Fortuna swept the Top Sportsman class at the NHRA Division 1 National Open and Lucas Oil Series races at Numidia Dragway over the weekend.
Duck Davis drove his Nova to wins on Saturday and Sunday at Bristol to earn a Top 10 spot this week.
Stuart Smith won two races in one day at Farmington Dragway this past weekend to lock in his Top 10 spot.
Ryan Richardson drove his Malibu to wins at Music City and Beech Bend over the weekend which earned him a Top 10 ranking.
7 – Danny Nelson
Former NHRA Top Dragster National Champion and renowned chassis builder Danny Nelson showed out in Topeka after picking up a win and runner-up in Top Dragster at the double divisional.
8 – Big Money Winners
Doug Foley Jr. crashes the Top 10 this week after winning the Friday $30K at the VMP Triple Threat Bracket Series.
Kevin Brannon joined Doug Foley Jr. in winning the Sunday $30K at VMP. The win came in Kevin’s Mother’s Monza making the victory even more special.
Chevy Reeves won the $20,000 Shootout at the Western Canadian Summer Classic to earn the largest payday of the weekend.
9 – Lane Cavar
Lane Cavar won $5,000 at the Woodburn Night of Fire. This was his third $5K final and second $5K victory in the last few weeks.
10 – Matt Kielman
Speaking of the Woodburn Night of Fire, Matt Kielman had a big weekend after winning the Saturday $3K and coming one win light short of the double with a runner-up on Sunday.
