LAS VEGAS – After a trip to the Sunshine state for the Gatornationals, the NHRA traveling road show heads west to Sin City for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As much as a destination as a race, the Four-Wide Nationals offers racers endless opportunities to enjoy themselves. In addition to the first class racing facility, there’s amazing views, daily military air-shows, and of course gambling.

The NHRA Four-Wide Nationals will showcase over 300 Lucas Oil sportsman racers competing in six different classes. The schedule includes Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Top Sportsman.

Before we look ahead to the 2022 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, let’s look back at the 2021 event champions.

2022 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Predictions

With each NHRA national event DragChamp’s sportsman preview includes an overview of each class. In addition, we select the DragChamp Picks to win the race. Here are this week’s picks.

Comp Eliminator – 14 Car Field

Joe Mozeris and Doug Lambeck look to be the odds on favorites coming into Vegas. Both are veterans of the class and routinely find their way to the finals. But I can only pick one so…

DragChamp picks to win:

Joe Mozeris – Expecting the defending event champ to go back-to-back.

Super Stock – 51 Car Field

There’s so many great choices in this class. This includes Jimmy DeFrank, Kyle Rizzoli, Scott Burton, Jody Lang, Justin Lamb, and defending event champ Brad Rounds.

DragChamp picks to win:

Justin Lamb – Hard to pass up a chance to pick JL at his home track.

Jeff Lane – Comp Eliminator stand out also knows how to make some noise in his Super Stocker.

Stock Eliminator – 73 Car Field

Leo Glasbrenner has been the class of the field on the West Coast after starting the season with back-to-back victories at the Winternationals and the Arizona Nationals. To complete the hat trick he’ll have to outlast a star-studded field of D7’s best.

DragChamp picks to win:

Jody Lang – Former world champ has been extremely quiet since his championship run, would expect that to change soon.

Justin Jerome – Mopar veteran tends to show out in Vegas.

Super Comp – 67 Car Field

Michael Miller always seems to shine in Vegas and last year was no exception. After picking up the hardware in 2021, Miller returns this year looking to add to his trophy case. Jim Glenn will be chasing a third final round appearance on the year after winning the Winternationals and falling short in the Arizona Nationals final.

DragChamp picks to win:

Tanner Theobald – Talented driver that’s overdue for a big win.

Marko Perivolaris – This dude just flat out kills it at Vegas. With his sister’s tuning expertise and his driving talents, they are a formidable combination.

Super Gas – 76 Car Field

The 9.90 class is always one of the toughest to pick as pretty much anyone in the field can win on any given Sunday. The field is so deep I can’t even name all of the hitters here, lol. My picks are…

DragChamp picks to win:

Luke Bogacki – Got to pick the best racer in the field!

Phil Unruh – Going with a sleeper pick here. Not as experienced in the Super Gas class but very capable driver with a great hot rod under him.

Top Sportsman – 25 Car Field

The Top Sportsman field is missing Don Meziere, winner of both of the West Coast nationals this year. Since Don is not on the entry list, looks like we’ll have a new winner this weekend.

DragChamp pick to win:

Patrick Warr – Talented racer with great equipment. Should be in the mix on Sunday afternoon.
