1 – Nick Hastings

For the third consecutive season Nick Hastings is the Bottom Bulb Racer of the Year! Nasty Nick enjoyed another phenomenal season winning on a weekly basis at the biggest events of the season. While it’s hard to list all of Nick’s accomplishments, we’ll hit the highlight reel for you.

  • $10K win and RU at the St. Patrick’s race
  • $20K runner-up at the Footbrake 150
  • Quarterfinal finish at the Spring Fling Million main event
  • $75K runner-up and $3K Gamblers win at Loose Rocker Bigfoot race
  • $10K win and $5K RU at Bernie Mann Memorial
  • $40K semifinal at Loose Rocker St. Patrick’s 300 top bulb race
  • Doubled up at Norwalk (first to win in two different cars in one day at Norwalk)
  • Swept the weekend at Quaker City
  • Colonial Classic $10K RU
  • Semifinal at Labor Day 250K main event
  • Footbraked to $75K win at Loose Rocker Super Pro Challenge
  • Gamblers race winner and on winning Dream Team at GABR Dream Team Challenge
  • Winner at Halloween Classic at Norwalk
  • Won the Bottom Bulb class twice at the Guaranteed Million and $40K Sunday RU

2 – Steve Collier

Steve Collier parlayed 14 wins in 21 finals on the season into a second place finish on the annual Top 10 List. Collier was a consistent fixture on the Top 10 List throughout the year. Highlights included winning $8,000 Gamblers race at the World Footbrake Challenge in a car he had never driven, beating Nick Hastings in a $5K final, winning Super Pro off the bottom, and making multiple finals on the same weekend several times.

3 – Dave Harvey Jr.

Dave Harvey Jr. grabs the three spot after winning two of the biggest footbrake races of the season at Bristol. In July, Harvey raced to a $25,000 victory at the World Footbrake Challenge. He returned on Labor Day weekend where he won the $250,000 main event! He also won the Door Wars $10K and was runner-up in the Loose Rocker 64-car St. Patty’s shootout.

4 – Jake Howard

When it comes to Footbrake racing in Texas and Oklahoma, Jake Howard has had a lock on the competition for years now. 2021 was no different as he won 14 times in 18 finals. Howard won two track championships and lost a tie-breaker for a third. In addition to numerous big $$ wins and double ups, Jake also accomplished without his trusty Fireturd for several months towards the end of the year. While it was down for repairs, Jake borrowed a friend’s S10 and continued his winning ways before returning in the Fireturd to finish the season.

5 – Gage Burch

Gage Burch continues to win at a hectic pace. During the 2021 season, Gage won on seemingly a weekly basis in his wheelstanding Mustang. In addition to numerous weekends where he doubled up or made multiple finals, Gage also excelled at big money races throughout the season. Early in the year he made the semifinals in $25,000 and $50,000 races on the same weekend!

6 – Lucas Walker

While Lucas Walker didn’t win with the same frequency he did in the previous two seasons, he showed out at the biggest races of the year. His biggest performance on the season was a runner-up in the Labor Day 250K. He also won $10,000 at the New Years Nationals, made the quarterfinals at the Bigfoot $75K, won $4K at Emerald Coast, and $5K at the Southern Big Buck Nationals. In addition to his big money success, Lucas consistently found the winners circle at his local race tracks.

7 – Wesley Lockhart

Wesley Lockhart won 11 times in 12 races this season which included winning Super Pro off the bottom on several occasions. Lockhart’s on track success earned him numerous Top 10 List finishes as he found the winners circle on a consistent basis.

8 – Slick Rick Baehr

Slick Rick earned another Bottom Bulb Top 10 List appearance after winning 8 times in 13 finals in an abbreviated season. The 2021 Crossville Dragway track champ was hot earlier in the season until breakage kept him out of action for three months. Prior to the breakage Baehr was almost unstoppable winning almost weekly in No Box and Box (footbraking). He won a $10K, a $7,500 race, had multiple doubles, and won several local races. After getting his car repaired, Baehr finished strong with several No Box wins, a $15K Box RU, and a Footbrake RU at the Guaranteed Million. The runner-up at the Million came during the “split” which earned him his largest payday of the season.

9 – Joe Tillman

Joe Tillman purchased a new Mustang earlier in the year which turned out to be a great race car. Tillman quickly found himself winning races to the tune of 11 wins in 16 finals in 2021. He won the Division 3 Race of Champions and a $5K No Box race along with numerous others. Joe also won the track championship at Indy.

10 – Ernie Humes

EH3 wrapped up another successful season by winning his 13th track championship! Humes made double digit finals on the season will collecting winners checks along the way. Ernie won a number of local races but also won a $10 grander, a $5 grander, and had two $20K runner-ups. It wasn’t hard to find Ernie at the big money footbrake races as he was also in the mix in the late rounds.
