Racers Gearing up for the 3rd Annual Mike Smith Memorial Race

The 3rd Annual Mike Smith Memorial Race returns to Montgomery International Dragway October 13-15, 2023

MONTGOMERY, AL – The 3rd Annual Mike Smith Memorial Race returns to Montgomery International Dragway October 13-15, 2023. After a wildly successful 2022 event that included almost 500 entries, the race returns in a similar format with three $20,000-to-win races along with two $5,000 Duck races.

Montgomery International Dragway is gearing up for another big crowd this year as the track will host two big money races on back-to-back weekends. Racers planning to attend the Great American Bracket Races USA 500K October 17-21, 2023 can get some extra warm-up laps the weekend prior at the Mike Smith Memorial. It’s an awesome deal for racers as they can save fuel by staying at the track for both races.

To accommodate the large contingent of racers planning to attend both events, the track has removed the entry cap so the Mike Smith Memorial will be an all run event. In addition, the track has a brand new Accutime timing system and is under new management!

Remembering Mike Smith

Mike Smith was a fierce competitor for well over four decades all over the South and in big money bracket racing. Mike was known for his shirtless appearance and always had a cigar in hand. He was an old school racer, in that he would bend over backwards to help you get to the starting line just to put you on the trailer.

Mike was not only an icon in the racing world, he was a huge figure in his small town of Roanoke, Alabama. There, Mike owned the local mechanic shop and was a local firefighter.

Outside of racing, Mike enjoyed his Harley and spending time with his kids and six grandchildren, which he adored. Mike will also be heavily missed for his dedication behind the grill cooking for thousands of racers. Mike will be greatly missed in this world!

In order to keep Mike’s memory alive and to pay tribute to his contributions, Montgomery International Dragway and racers alike come together every fall to race and celebrate Mike.
