Angelle, Patton Lead Victory Marches at IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser and Fuel Tech at State Capitol Raceway

Angelle, Patton, LeJeune, Chesne and Olinde claimed wins at the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser and Fuel Tech at State Capitol Raceway.

PORT ALLEN, La. — Good starts led to great finishes for John Angelle and Derrick Patton in Top and Mod victories at the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering and Fuel Tech at State Capitol Raceway.

Wesley LeJeune was the Sportsman winner and Slade Olinde won a run-off in Junior Dragsters at the season-opening International Hot Rod Association event.

Angelle used a .021 reaction time to get the jump on final-round opponent Danny Ray Martinez, who was .041 at the start. Angelle then paired it with a 4.492-second run at 144.42 mph against a 4.47 dial-in for the $5,000-to-win big check and IHRA Ironman trophy. The good start was needed as Martinez posted a 4.968-second pass at 133.77 mph against a 4.96 dial-in.

Mod ET

Patton was spot on throughout his run in the Mod final to collect the $2,500 winner’s check. After a nearly perfect .001 start, Patton went 6.407 seconds at 104.58 mph against his 6.40 dial-in. Chesne was the runner-up after going down the 1/8-mile in 6.047 seconds at 112.73 mph against a 6.02 dial-in with a .034 reaction time.

Sportsman

LeJeune captured the Sportsman victory as final-round opponent Jason Hildebrant fouled at the start. The final numbers for LeJeune showed a 7.656 elapsed time at 91.24 against a 7.59 dial-in and a .056 reaction time. Hildebrant finished out his run at 7.531 seconds and 89.45 mph against a 7.51 dial-in.

Junior Dragster

The Junior Dragster run-off featured Slade Olinde from the Masters class against Maddie Chesne from the Elite class. Olinde was jumping for joy after winning the run-off and taking the overall Junior Dragster victory. It was the second final-round of the day for the Chesne family.

There was excitement throughout the day including the “Moser Money Round” when Tony Lulei (Top), Baylee Thibodeaux (Mod) and Jimmy Cox (Sportsman) took home prizes for the best packages.

More racers will get the opportunity to race for the big checks, prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies and other prizes at the next IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering and Fuel Tech on Saturday, April 15 at Music City Raceway, Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
