Slade Olinde: DragChamp Jr Racer Spotlight

VENTRESS, LA- Slade’s drag racing journey started just five years back when he first got behind the wheel of a Junior Dragster. Racing runs in his family with his dad, grandfather, and uncle all competing within in the sport. When he was just 8 years old, Slade got started racing in the 11.90 beginners class and has now stepped up into the 8.90 class at State Capitol Raceway.

His Race Car

Slade’s current Junior Dragster is a 2006 Halfscale that his parents bought from their friends. It has a S&W Powersports motor onboard that is driven by a Shockwave clutch. Slade helps out with his car by ensuring the oil is changed every race and assisting his dad in fixing brakes, changing tires, wiring up lights, and whatever else needs to be done.

Outside of Racing

When Slade isn’t behind the wheel of his Junior Dragster, he enjoys playing video games, working on his race car, knee boarding, and tubing. His favorite TV show is Family Feud and he loves to cheer on the LSU Tigers- Geaux Tigers! One thing most people don’t know about Slade is that he likes to workout.

Which win are you most proud of? 

I am most proud of my 8.90 Ironman.

What’s on your bucket list, future goals, what do you hope to achieve? 

My top priority bucket list item is to win the
IHRA World Finals.

Who has made the biggest impact on your racing success? 

My parents have made the biggest impact on my racing

Who do you look up to in the sport? 

I most look up to Nasty Nick Hastings.

Who do you hate to see in the other lane, and why? 

I hate to see Kane Kern in the other lane when I am racing because he is my friend and I hate to see him lose, lol

What’s the hardest part of drag racing? 

Hardest part of drag racing is traveling.

What do you enjoy the most about racing? 

The part of drag racing I enjoy the most is spending time with my friends and family

Do you love to win or hate to lose? 

I love to win

Which are you better at the starting line or the finish line? 

I am much better at the starting line

Where do you spend the most time on the internet?

I spend most my internet time on TikTok

What’s your favorite thing to eat?  Individual item, meal, or restaurant? 

Favorite meal is Spaghetti

Who would you like to thank, who helps you the most? 

I would like to thank my parents, Big Lou, Wyatt, Koty, Mickey, & Jason. Sometimes it takes a team to keep my car going.
