There were only a few hours of silence before the thunder of racecars returned to Bristol Dragway for Saturdayโ€™s portion of the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XVIII. Several new entries made a time trial to get dialed in for the remainder of the weekend where each race winner would walk away with $20,000.

The Saturday schedule left little margin for interruptions with one full $20K Main Event and the remainder of Fridayโ€™s $20K on deck. For once, the stars aligned with no precipitation, fully functioning race cars, and exceptional cooperation from all drivers to get very close to conquering essentially two races in one day.

As Saturdayโ€™s Main Event dwindled into the late rounds, the balance of Fridayโ€™s second round competitors were called to the lanes so the two races could alternate until the first twenty grand winner was crowned. Sometime around 10:30 pm only six drivers remained in round number eight of Saturdayโ€™s $20K. The ladder was set with Jordan Martin, Ben Scharf, Brianna Bailey, Todd McKinney, Lucas Walker, and Scooter Hamlin.

The first quarterfinal match-up ended with a two-thousandths margin of victory with Martin taking the win over Bailey. McKinney is .002 red while Walker launches .007 green and delivers a free firework show with his bumper-dragging wheelstand. To end the round, Hamlin is .010 up front and runs dead on with a five to advance, leaving Scharf mathematically ineligible.

In the semifinal, Scooter has the better light with his .012 reaction time and turns it into a double-breakout win over Walker. Martin takes advantage of the bye run, coasts across the finish line, and prepares for the final.

As the crowd of onlookers grew, Martin and Hamlin made their way onto the starting line with hopes of claiming their first Coalburg Racing Promotions win. Hamlin leaves the line with a dreaded red light while Martinโ€™s tree shines green to secure the $20,000 victory.

Martin mentioned that he hasnโ€™t been able to get over the semifinal round this season but is thrilled to earn a win during the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XVIII.

Winnerโ€™s circle celebrations were paused in an effort to run as much of Fridayโ€™s $20K Main Event as possible. The sixth round of competition wrapped up just as the racetrack curfew drew near, leaving only 12 entries to be completed tomorrow.

Sunday will start with an 8:15 am church service followed by new entry time trials at 8:45 am. Racing will resume with the seventh round of Fridayโ€™s $20K Main Event and then Sundayโ€™s $20K will begin. The remaining rounds of Fridayโ€™s race will be mixed in and completed during the first round of Sundayโ€™s race.

Motormaniatv will stream the action live from Friday to Sunday thanks to the support from Affordable Elegance Limo, MAXX Performance, Big Pair Sportswear, and Southern Maryland Mat Co.
