Danny Hoff Kicks Off 2024 Season with a Win at Derby City $5K

Danny Hoff made his trip to the Midwest well worth it, taking home the win in the $5,000 main event at the Derby City $5K.

LOUISVILLE, KY – The TB Promotions crew kicked off their 2024 season with the Derby City $5K Practice Tree Race over the weekend, where Danny Hoff picked up the $5,000 main event check after defeating Shaun Smith in the final round.

The event was moved to a new venue this year, Caesar’s Southern Indiana.

Aside from the $5,000 to win main event, a $3,000 winner-take-all Team shootout. The main event was split into top bulb and bottom bulb, with 500+ entries in top bulb and 77 entries in bottom bulb.

Mullis Race Cars added a $1,000 to the purse, making it $6,000 to win!

$5,000 to win Main Event

Danny Hoff defeated Shaun Smith in the final round to take home the big check back to Maryland.

Kevin Adams was the semi-finalist.

On the bottom bulb side, Austin Alvey was victorious over Michael Beard in the final round. Kayla Costello was the last female standing.

Team Shootout

Team Hunny Wayne (Hunter Patton, Shane Carr, Todd Clark) picked up the $3,000 check in the final round over Team Mikey Matty Jr. (Mikey Matty, Tj Jordan, Justin Vickers).

An avid racer herself, Megan Strassweg, 28, sees her two worlds collide with DragChamp – journalism and drag racing. Megan resides in Evansville, IN, and she pilots a 2015 American Dragster in the NHRA North Central Division 3 Super Comp series, along with some local bracket racing on the side. Her passion for racing began early, having grown up at the racetrack, and she remains committed to the sport. When she’s not racing, you can find her working at WDRB News as a Digital Producer, playing with her two dogs – Clutch and Goose, or spending time with her friends and family.
