Remembering Mike Smith
Mike Smith was a fierce competitor for well over four decades, racing across the South and participating in big-money bracket events. He was known for his shirtless appearance and signature cigar in hand. Mike was the kind of competitor who would bend over backwards to help you make it to the starting line—just to put you on the trailer.
Mike wasn’t just an iconic figure in the racing world; he was also a beloved member of his small town of Roanoke, Alabama. There, he owned the local mechanic shop and served as a dedicated firefighter.
Outside of racing, Mike enjoyed riding his Harley and cherished spending time with his children and six grandchildren, whom he adored. He will also be deeply missed at the OG Million, where, for over 10 years, he manned the grill at the Racers’ Appreciation Steak Dinner, cooking for thousands of racers over the years.
