Chestin Handy: DragChamp Jr Racer Spotlight

LEESBURG, AL- Chestin Handy has been racing Junior Dragsters for the past five years. It all started when his dad introduced him to the sport. With his dad being a seasoned racer himself and his brothers joining him on the track, racing runs deep in his family. Chestin competes in the 11.90 or All Run Junior Dragster class, racing at tracks in and out of his home state of Alabama and at his home track, Baileyton Dragstrip.

His Race Car

Chestin’s current race car, which was first driven by his oldest brother, is a Spitzer chassis powered by a Rhino 8.90 setup with a Polar clutch. It runs around 72 mph.

In addition to his driving duties, Chestin also assists with his race car as much as he can. During race weekends, he is responsible for fueling up his car, checking tire pressures, and keeping it clean. He also adds or removes weight as needed.

Outside of Racing

When Chestin isn’t behind the wheel of his Junior Dragster, he enjoys riding dirt bikes, playing video games, and building stuff. He also likes to spend time watching YouTube videos and cheering on the Miami Dolphins. His favorite music artist is The Kid LAROI and his favorite TV series is The Flash.

  • 4 Wins at Sand Mountain Dragway
  • Placed 2nd in IHRA Points
  • 2023 Last Standing 6-9 Year Old at World Series of Juniors at Capitol City Motorsports Park

Which win are you most proud of? 

My 2022 Sand Mountain win

What’s on your bucket list, future goals, what do you hope to achieve? 

I want to become a pro racer.

Who has made the biggest impact on your racing success? 

My Dad.

Who do you look up to in the sport?

My older brother, CJ.

Who do you hate to see in the other lane, and why?

My older brother, CJ because he knows how to run consistent.

What’s the hardest part of drag racing? 

Taking my clutch belt off. I’m little.

What do you enjoy most about racing? 

Winning.

Do you love to win or hate to lose?

I love winning but I don’t like to lose.

Which are you better at the starting line or the finish line? 

Starting line.

Name one thing most people don’t know about you?

My name is not Justin.

What’s your favorite thing to eat?  Individual item, meal, or restaurant?

Pizza

What advice would you give to young aspiring racers?

Take deep breaths and tell yourself “you got this”.
