Hunter Handy: DragChamp Jr Racer Spotlight
Hunter Handy is in this week’s DragChamp Jr Racer Spotlight. Learn all about this DragChamp Pro Member in his spotlight below!
LEESBURG, AL- Hunter Handy started racing Junior Dragsters six years ago, taking his first pass down the racetrack at the young age of 7. With his dad being a racer himself and his brothers also competing in Junior Dragsters, racing runs deep in his family. Over the years, Hunter has earned numerous wins and runner-up finishes, along with gaining valuable insights into the technical workings of his dragster. When he’s not burning rubber on the racetrack, you can find him in the shop, working on his car.
Competing in the 7.90, 8.90, or All Run Junior Dragster classes, Hunter races at tracks in and around his home state of Alabama, including his home track, Baileyton Dragstrip.

His Race Car
Hunter’s current race car is a 2005 Halfscale, which his family has owned for 2-3 years. It features a 7.90 ZR4 3 1/2 with shockwave clutches and reaches speeds of 82 mph. The eye-catching design of his car is thanks to the skilled hands of a good friend at TMC Graphics, who wrapped the vehicle in a visually striking electric green metallic paint.
In addition to his driving duties, Hunter is responsible for checking tire pressures, monitoring fuel levels, cleaning his car, and prepping the tires.
Hunter’s dragster was featured as the DragChamp Car of the Month in November 2023. Check out the article here.
