DragChamp Pro member Mason Acosta and his 2024 Half Scale Jr. Dragster win the May 2024 Car of the Month contest

June 26, 2024 – DragChamp Pro member Mason Acosta of Decatur, Arkansas captured the DragChamp May Car of the Month title with his 2024 Half Scale Jr. dragster. At the core of Mason’s dragster is a 3 1/2 inch billet Nic Woods 7.90 top shelf motor paired with primary and secondary clutches from Ryan Saum at S&S Motorsports. The swing arm chassis rolls on Race Star wheels wrapped with Mickey Thompson tires.

Visually, Mason’s Half Scale dragster is a showstopper, thanks to the stunning wrap designed by Jake Lago at Kryptonite Kustomz in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The wrap draws inspiration from Michael Paschal’s Racetech dragster paint scheme and Mario Gonzalez’s new Ezell dragster, creating a striking blend of vibrant colors and sleek lines that make Mason’s car stand out in any lineup.

Mason’s journey into the world of drag racing began in 2021, inspired by his grandfather, who races a ’75 Vega. “I knew I needed to climb into a race car,” Mason recalls, reflecting on his decision to pursue drag racing. His dedication paid off quickly; in 2022, he clinched his first victory at Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri. That year, Mason honed his skills, mastering the nuances of driving the top end and securing three more race wins, culminating in his triumph as the track champion at Mo-Kan Dragway.

The 2023 season, though challenging, became a defining period for Mason. “I was an absolute duck and only picked up one win,” he admits, yet that single victory was monumental, earning him his first Wally win. Despite four runner-up finishes, Mason’s determination never wavered.

Recognizing the need for a competitive edge, Mason’s dad, Okey, decided it was time for an upgrade. They ordered the new Half Scale car at the end of August 2023 and collected it at PRI in December. The investment paid off handsomely; in the current season, Mason has already reached three finals and secured a win at the very first race, setting the tone for a promising year ahead.
