Blake Combs in the Jr DragChamp Racer Spotlight
This week’s DragChamp Jr. Racer Spotlight is all about Tennessee Junior Dragster competitor, Blake Combs.
BLUFF CITY, TN- Blake Combs started racing Junior Dragsters eight years ago after being introduced to the sport by his Dad, Mike. He currently races in Junior Dragster classes that he is eligible for and calls Capital City Motorsports Park and Mooresville Dragway their home track. Just recently, he has started racing big cars as he begins his transition out of Junior Dragsters.
Blake started racing at the young age of eight years old and won his first race and first two track championships at Bristol Dragway. He won his third track championship at Farmington Dragway in his Black and Green Junior Dragster. After that year, their focus turned to chasing big money Junior Dragster races instead of concentrating on points.

Blake’s Q&A
What’s on your bucket list, future goals, what do you hope to achieve?
I want to win a big money footbrake race this year and would like to get the Eastern Conference Finals monkey off my back (been so close so many times and just have something happen).
What is your favorite race car, and why?
67 Chevy II and Chevy II wagons are the coolest
Who has made the biggest impact on your racing success?
My Dad, he’s not a bad teacher
Who do you look up to in the sport?
I have several people I look up to My Dad, Ben Willis, and Tanner Miller they all help me out a lot.
How do you support your racing, side hustle, sponsor, partner, etc.?
Could not do this without my sponsors, Mike Bos Chassis craft, Fred Craw at Craws Racing, and especially my Mom, Brandy who supports Dad & I’s racing.

Who do you hate to see in the other lane, and why?
That’s a loaded question. There are a ton of great racers everyone is so tough. I try to just keep my head down and focus on what I have going on and treat every racer the same. It would be hard to name one racer.
What’s the hardest part of drag racing?
Know what to do, when to do it, to take or not sometimes is the hardest thing. Goes back to there are so many tough racers giving you different looks.
What’s your most embarrassing moment in a race car?
I cut the car off trying to pull the chute one time
What are you saying to yourself just before you stage the car?
I don’t really say or think anything.

Winning

Hate to lose

I would say finish line but after last weekend that could be debated lol
What motivates you to continue racing?
Turning on win lights
If money were no object, what would your racing operation look like? Car, trailer, class, race schedule, etc.
I would have a huge totorhome and stacker with a Jr Dragster and a Chevy II wagon and race 5 days a week.
How often do you use a practice tree?
Never

What is your daily driver?
Right now, my Hey Dudes… I just turned 16 and have not bought anything yet but am looking for a truck.
Favorite music, artist?
I really like all kinds of music from Country to Rock to Rap but really don’t have a favorite really depends on my mood.
What is your favorite sport? Favorite team?
Football… The Bills are my favorite team
What are you really good at?
Not sure I’m really good at anything, so I have to say breathing cause I’m still alive lol
Name one thing most people don’t know about you?
I’m really shy I think some people think I’m not friendly but it’s just because I’m shy. And I could have possibly welded their Jr Dragster.

Would you rather hang out with a crowd or have a quiet evening at home?
I like to be in a crowd as long as I’m with my friends but I just sit back and watch.
Who would you like to thank, who helps you the most?
Again my sponsors, Mike Bos, Craws Racing and especially my parents.
What is a piece of advice you’d give to an aspiring racer?
Surround yourself around good racers and listen and pay attention. Put forth the effort and keep your head up even in the rough times, we all hit rough streaks but keep digging and don’t ever give up.
