Underwood, Dweck, & Bargo Cash in at PBIR
JUPITER, Fla. – Palm Beach International Raceway hosted the Dick Moroso Memorial 3-Day Bracket Championship earlier this week. The event returns the Moroso name to the Florida winter series where for years the Moroso 5-Day Bracket races were the pinnacle of big dollar bracket racing. This year’s event included three days of bracket racing action each paying $15,000 to win.
Day 1 Results
Kenny Underwood continued his amazing season by adding another big win on Monday. In the $15,000 final round Underwood, Delaware, Ohio, laid down an .008 package in his trusty Pontiac Firebird to defeat Pro Stock crew chief and sportsman racing star Dave Connolly, Bradenton, Fla. Connolly, driving his ’66 Chevy II wagon, let go perfect while Underwood followed closely behind with a .004 light. At the stripe, Connolly took .011 to break out -.003 as Underwood posted a dead-on 5.904 for the win. A classic heavy weight battle between two racers at the top of their game.
Day 2 Results
Steve Dweck drove his Undercover dragster to the Day 2 win on Tuesday defeating Trey Bunner in the final round. Dweck, Hollywood, Fla., was .002 at the tree taking a commanding lead after Bunner, Bushnell, Fla., missed the tree with a .116 reaction. Dweck took the easy win after both drivers posted .05 over E.T.’s.
Day 3 Results
The Wednesday final round included a familiar face as Day 1 runner-up Dave Connolly made his second final round of the week. In another all-doorcar final round, Connolly paired against Jeremy Bargo of Barbourville, Ky. At the hit both drivers posted .01 reactions with Bargo winning at the top end after posting a dead-on 6.464 in his S-10 for a .019 package. Connolly posted a respectable lap with a .016 light and a .015 over 6.095 to secure his second runner-up of the week.
