LAS VEGAS – As the NHRA 2021 racing season races towards the final national event of the season, racers will stop off in Vegas for the Dodge SRT NHRA Nationals before heading to Pomona for the Finals. Vegas is always a popular stop on the tour as it is the entertainment capital of the world. A small handful of racers head to Vegas chasing championships while hundreds of others look for one last shot at glory.

The championship picture should be much clearer once racers put Vegas in the rear view as most will have to win this week if they have any shot to pass the current leaders and head to California with a chance.

The Dodge SRT NHRA Nationals will showcase over 310 Lucas Oil sportsman racers competing in six different classes. The schedule includes Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street.

Before we look ahead to the 2021 Dodge SRT NHRA Nationals, let’s look back at the 2020 event champions.

Bruno Massel Jr. comes to Vegas nursing a three point lead over David Billingsley for the Comp national championship. The two will battle it out over the next two weeks as they both chase the championship.

DragChamp picks to win:

Joe Mozeris – Dude has been money this year on the national event trail.

Super Stock – 60 Car Field

Greg Stanfield

A handful of racers will be chasing Greg Stanfield in hopes of surpassing him for the Super Stock championship. This includes Joe Santangelo, Jimmy Hidalgo Jr., Jimmy DeFrank, and Kyle Rizzoli.

DragChamp picks to win:

Greg Stanfield – 4x Champ has been practically unstoppable this season. I fully expect him to finish strong and claim his fifth national title.

Scott Burton – Veteran racer has been a force in Stock and Super Stock this season.

Stock Eliminator – 60 Car Field

Justin Lamb

The Stock Eliminator championship looks to be a two-man race with Jammin’ Jerry Emmons chasing Joe Santangelo. This is a battle that will be fun to watch as they are two of the best in the class.

DragChamp picks to win:

Justin Lamb – Really hard to pick against this guy in Vegas, he’s that good.

Kyle Rizzoli – Another racer that’s hard to pick against when the tour heads West.

Super Comp – 62 Car Field

Missing from the Super Comp entry list is championship contender Nick Isenhower. He’s one of the few racers with a legitimate chance of surpassing reigning champ Christopher Dodd for the 2021 championship. We’ll see if he shows up for the last two events of the year.

DragChamp picks to win:

Trey Vetter – Talented D7 racer with a track record of success at the Strip.

Parker Theobald – Another D7 hitter that consistently finds his way to final rounds!

Super Gas – 60 Car Field

Marko Perivolaris

With the championship pretty much settled with Luke Bogacki holding a huge lead, racers can turn their attention to chasing Wally’s. The 9.90 field is loaded with talent as always.

DragChamp picks to win:

Marko Perivolaris – Super talented young racer that lays down consistently good laps.

Ken Mostowich – Veteran D7 runner has a knack for winning races. Been a while since his last victory so I’m sure he’s hungry.

Super Street – 48 Car Field

Gordon Boven

The 10.90 field in Vegas this week is one of the most talented Super Street fields of the year. The field also includes hitters from almost every division.

DragChamp pick to win:

Gordon Boven – Division 6 veteran doubled up recently on the LODRS tour. Look for the Mopar racer to make noise this week.

Ryan “High Gear” Herem – Been out of commission for a while but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him in the winners circle on Sunday afternoon.
