A Junior Dragster and a Dream- Audrey Wiley

“I hope to one day drive a Top Fuel Dragster in the NHRA, even before my dad does” says Texas Junior Dragster racer, Audrey Wiley.

Audrey Wiley has grown up at the racetrack and always knew that racing was in her blood. She currently runs the 7.90 Junior class at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas and Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas. She races on the Texas Grim Reaper Race team alongside two other Junior drivers and her dad and his Pro Mod.

Throughout the past six years that Audrey has been racing, she has picked up many wins and earned some titles in the Junior Dragster classes. Some of her accomplishments include: 2016 Winner at Redemption 10.0, 2017 TOPMA Points Championship Runner-up, and 2018 TOPMA Point Championship third place.

For Audrey, it has been her dad who has made the biggest impact on her racing career. He is the one who got her into it and has supported her since day one. She says, “I love coming off the track, win or lose, and seeing his face. I can always tell he’s proud of me and he motivates me to always do my best”. Besides her dad, she also looks up to Top Fuel driver, Scott Palmer.

While racing in a mostly male-dominated sport, we like to ask what it means to be a woman in the sport of drag racing? Audrey says that being a woman in the sport means that you get the opportunity to encourage and motivate other young girls or even adults to do whatever you set your mind to do. She says, “Don’t let being a girl get in the way of doing what you love!”.

So, why Top Fuel? Audrey says she loves the feeling of being strapped into a dragster. She also just wants to go as fast as possible and feel the insane adrenaline rush. In her eyes, Top Fuel just combines the two and is a perfect goal for her. Stay tuned to see her journey into the Top Fuel ranks one day!

When Audrey isn’t racing, she is a Senior at Joshua High School where she is the sentinel of the FFA Chapter. She is also a member of the radio broadcasting team, the skills demonstration team, the meat judging team, and the show team. After high school, she plans on attending online school to get her basic courses out of thew way and then later transfer to A&M to get a degree in Agri-business to hopefully be a Ag-mechanics teacher one day.
