ACE Summer Slam shows continued success in Ohio

ACE Ohio Events presents the Summit Summer Slam where 400 entries raced for their chance at three $20,000 paydays, an array of bonus prizes, and a few delicious meals.

WEST SALEM, OH – Marco Abruzzi, Travis Colangelo, and Jacob Elrod are the brains behind ACE Ohio Events, LLC. After successful events in previous years, they returned to Dragway 42 for the Summit Racing Equipment Summer Slam June 4-7, 2020.

Thursday: $5,000 Gamblers Race

Following test-and-tune, Thursday’s action began with a $5K gamblers race sponsored by Brodix Cylinder Heads. The event moved to Saturday after four rounds of racing were completed, due to an earlier rain delay.

A pair of Taylors with .018 reaction times squared off in a double breakout final round for $5K. Scott Taylor’s Camaro roadster ran .001 under the dial which gave him the win over Steve Taylor’s .017 breakout.

Friday: TRM Manufacturing/GEM Attachments $20,000 Main Event

At approximately 4am on Saturday, the first $20,000 check went home with Johnny “John Boat” Brannen when he was dead on his 4.57 dial in and .016 on the tree. This was reportedly Johnny’s first time driving the Folk family’s dragster. Chris Bear took the runner up spot with his .003 reaction time and .0042 breakout.

Saturday: Vintage Trailers Ltd. Sponsors $20,000 Main Event and $7,500 Gamblers Race

Two familiar names in the big money bracket racing world dueled in Saturday’s main event final round. Kenny Underwood added another big check to his collection over Will Holloman.

Only four thousandths separated their reaction times, with Holloman having the advantage, but Underwood ran closer to the dial during the double breakout run to claim $20K.

Following a packed day of racing action, Saturday’s $7,500 gamblers race purse was split among the remaining 49 competitors.

Sunday: Bazell Race Fuels $20,000 Main Event and 48 Car Re-Entry Runoff Sponsored by Jones Transmission Cooling Systems

Sunoco Sunday’s main event was an all door-car final and just an all around great drag race. Matt Dadas, who has already made a habit of final round appearances this year, staged beside A.J. Buchanan for the final $20,000 payday.

Both drivers were dead on their dial-ins with .012 reaction times resulting in a .002 margin of victory and win light in Buchanan’s lane.

Ricky Adkins earned a weekend entry into the Million’s Triple 50K’s with his runner up finish. The lone semifinalist, Zach Fisher, picked up a weekend entry into ACE Ohio Events Summit Fall Fest.
