DragChamp Top 10 List
1 – Michael Carpenter
Michael Carpenter snagged the #1 spot this week after collecting a massive payday at the SFG Season Kickoff at Brandenton Motorsports Park. Carpenter collected a $50,000 payday not once, but twice over the weekend! There have been only two custom “the Riley” SFG trophies awarded and he has both of them!
2 – Heath Phillips
Heath Phillips also scored big over the weekend. Racing at the CP Racing Promotions Texas Two Step, Phillips won Friday’s $30K and came up one round short of the sweep on Saturday! Phillips settled for a runner-up to Austin Williams in Saturday’s $30K.
3 – Brad Clarke
Bad Brad Clarke dominated the D&D Nationals at Huntsville Dragway on Saturday. Clarke drove both entries to the $10K final round to earn the win and the runner-up!
4 – Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones picked up a win and a runner-up finish at the Texas Two Step Saturday afternoon. Oh, I forgot to mention, he raced himself in the $5,000 No-Box final for a clean sweep of the class.
5 – Nick Hastings
Nasty Nick Hastings continues to prove why he was the 2020 DragChamp Racer of the Year. After a huge season in 2020, Nick continues to fire on all cylinders in 2021. Competing at the Loose Rocker St. Patrick’s Footbrake Triple 10’s in Piedmont, Nick won on Friday and was runner-up on Saturday. A $10K win and runner-up is all in a week’s work for the man they call Nasty!
6 – Bobby Mattera
Speaking of the Footbrake Triple 10’s, Bobby Mattera put on a show in Saturday’s $10K. He took two entries to the semifinals where he defeated Hannah Blevins in one entry and lost to Nick Hasting’s .001 light in the other. In the final, Hastings was .002 but Mattera would get there first by .001 to claim the $10,000 victory after both drivers ran over their dial-ins.
7 – Austin Williams
2x NHRA World Champ Austin Williams continues to make noise on the big dollar bracket racing scene. After a runner-up late last year, A-dub returned to the Texas Motorplex and found himself holding the $30K winners check Friday night. Williams stopped Saturday winner Heath Phillips in the Friday $30K final to add to his already impressive resume. I know, the check says $20,000 but the three $20K’s were changed to two $30K’s due to an unfavorable weather forecast. Check out our podcast with A-dub here.
8 – Marie Muller
Marie Muller made history on Friday night at the SFG Season Kickoff becoming just the second female winner of an SFG event. Muller drove through the talented field in the $25K Warm Up race to secure her spot in the history books.
9 (tie) – Ray Miller III
After beginning the season with a runner-up at the Division 2 Lucas Oil event in Orlando, Ray Ray Miller cashed again winning Super Comp at the NHRA Gatornationals. What’s even more impressive is it was his second straight victory at the prestigious event.
9 (tie) – Jonathan Anderson
Jonathan Anderson matched Ray Miller’s feat by winning his second straight NHRA Gatornationals crown. The impressive part is last year Anderson drove a borrowed race car to the win while this year, he drove his brand new roadster to the victory. Pretty impressive performance from the Division 2 hitter.
10 – Anthony Bertozzi
Reigning NHRA Top Dragster World Champ Anthony Bertozzi started the 2021 racing season much like he did the 2020 season, winning! After opening the season with a win in Orlando, AB extended his final round streak in Gainesville to three. After winning TD at the 2019 event, Bertozzi has been runner-up the last two seasons. For a guy that races to have fun, he sure does win a lot!!!
