1 – Nasty Nick Hastings

Nick-Hastings-Semifinal

In a year that saw some amazing accomplishments from a number of racers, Nick Hastings took a narrow victory over Hunter Patton to claim the DragChamp 2020 Racer of the Year trophy. While both racers enjoyed tremendous success in 2020, Hastings squeaked out the overall title based on his bottom and top bulb victories on the season along with dominating performances at several races where he literally swept the weekend.

Nick has been at the top of his game for the last several seasons which continued in 2020. Racing in both the bottom bulb and top bulb classes, Nick won at the highest levels of the sport. His most dominating performances included a weekend sweep at the at the Great American Dream Team Race where he won No-Box all three days and was on the winning No-Box Team. At the Great American Guaranteed Million, Nick was in every No-Box final during the weekend and raced to a semifinal finish in the main event where he walked away with a $173,000 payday!

In addition to the races mentioned above, Nick won $25,000 at the SFG race in Cedar Falls, $50K at the Million in Montgomery, won $20,000 at the Fall Footbrake Frenzy, and won the DragChamp October Racer of the Month award. Patton, aka Hunny Wayne, began the season with a $50,000 win at the Southern Big Buck Nationals in Belle Rose, La. which he followed with a $50K win and $50K runner-up (to Nick Hastings) at the SFG 350 at Cedar Falls, Iowa.

In early May, after a brief shutdown in racing due to the pandemic, Hunter outlasted hundreds of racers to win on back-to-back nights at the Ardmore Windmill Nationals. His impressive continued at the Spring Fling Galot, the Ace Fall Slam, and many more big money bracket races. As Fall approached, Hunter geared up for four million dollar races. In those four events, Hunter made it to the quarterfinals in two and the semifinals in another.
